About the Department
West Virginia Northern is seeking applicants for the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Full time Instructor position. This position will have instructional duties college-wide.**This is a Grant-Funded position.** Instructs students in the skills required to achieve a Commercial Driver's License through classroom training in safe driving practices, practical field work to teach students to perform the DOT mandated pre-trip inspection of truck equipment, and practice sessions of behind-the-wheel student driving. Classroom and practical instruction in Commercial Driving. Assists with the development of curriculum, works with the Program Director and Administrative Assistant for reporting and record keeping. Reports to the Program Director of the CDL program.
Position Duties
- Utilize curriculum for a comprehensive CDL training program for students which meets the subject matter for a Class A CDL license as outlined by CFR 380, Appendix A to Part 380—Class A—CDL Training Curriculum which includes requirements for safe driving theory instruction, pre-trip, enroute and post trip inspections, demonstrated proficiency in various backing and parking scenarios and behind-the-wheel driving skills. Training will include proficiency in the Tank Vehicle and Hazardous Materials endorsements.
- Perform the requirements of the Entry Level Driver Training Rule including written proficiency testing administration, training certification, record keeping, and maintenance of federal database entries.
- Classes may be held during the daytime, evening, or weekend, so the ability to instruct during those times is required.
- Assist with the recruitment and hiring of adjunct instructors as the program demands increase.
- Maintain current knowledge of training programs, professional certification requirements, and training requirements of business and industry.
- Maintain valid CDL license and required endorsements.
- May also instruct other transportation specific courses as needed.
- Work with administrative staff to ensure all records are correctly filed, maintained and certifications are approved by the appropriate governing body.
- Also, ensure that students are assisted from the initial application process, while training, through completion, and beyond, including documenting job placement records.
- Participate in recruiting events such as job fairs to market the program directly to perspective students.
- Assist in achieving the College's goals by collaborating with academic, student, and fiscal divisions in a process of continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the overall success of the Continuing Education and Workforce Development division by performing these duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals, values, and priorities of West Virginia Northern Community College and by performing all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Associate's Degree, vocational or technical school degree, preferred
Equivalent education, experience, certification, and/or training may be considered
Experience:
2 year + - Commercial driving experience, required
2 year + - CDL Instruction experience, preferred
Requires valid West Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with Tank Vehicle and Hazardous Materials Endorsements.

- Ability to travel to multiple sites including Weirton, WV and New Martinsville, WV.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Ability to market programs and recruit students
- Demonstrated ability to work in with students, faculty, and staff from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to understand principles of student advising. Experience in student advising a plus.
