Position Purpose:

Internal Auditors conduct reviews and audits of internal Company functions and programs to ensure compliance with contractual and other Company and DOE requirements, with particular emphasis on the adequacy and effectiveness of controls being applied to financial and operational activities at the site. These audits are concerned with the safeguarding of plant assets and cost reductions to the total operating and capital budgets. Independently performs complex audits and consultations with minimal direction and leads or assists on team audits and projects as requested.  Functions as an independent consultant to management in performing various internal audits and investigations, as needed

Under the direction of the Audit Director, the internal auditor plans, coordinates, and conducts operational and financial-related audits in assigned areas/functions.  Work scope includes, but is not limited to:  

• developing audit programs appropriate to area(s) of audit assignment. 

• conducting objective, independent evaluation of internal controls through appropriate detailed testing of both project and support activities. 

• evaluating compliance with management policies, client requirements, project procedures, federal laws and government regulations and general business prudence. 

• evaluating the effectiveness of accounting, financial, and other management controls. 

• formulating and communicating recommendations for improvement; and 

• conducting follow-up to ensure corrective actions are taken.

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements (Education/Experience):

The U.S. Department of Energy’s' Idaho National Laboratory Site is a federal facility that performs work involving national security. As such, our jobs require U.S. citizenship.

This is a multi-level posting and the successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills. At the Idaho Environmental Coalition, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software applications.

Excellent verbal, written, listening, reading, and interpersonal skills.   

Eligible to obtain a Department of Energy clearance.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field with a minimum of 12 credit hours of accounting plus: 

Salary Grade 16: 5 years of related audit, internal audit, or finance experience.

Salary Grade 18: 12 years of related audit, internal audit, or finance experience.

 

Effective Monday, May 12, 2025, REAL ID-compliant driver's licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent) is required to gain access to all IEC and INL facilities (such as in-person interviews, medical & pre-employment drug screening, and for new employee orientation).   • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
  • U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential
  • Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)

 

Special Requirement/Training:

Advanced degree in Accounting or Finance and/or CPA, CIA, CFE or other applicable professional certification highly desirable.   

Strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills.  Experience using TeamMate Audit Management software.

Prior experience working in a Department of Energy environment desired.

 

Position Responsibilities:

Audit field work and work paper documentation.

Audit planning and scheduling.

Other direct audit support - special requests, etc.

Other indirect audit support – management support, training, safety.

Audit report writing.

Audit follow-up.
