SUMMARY
The Estimator is responsible for analyzing product specifications, technical drawings, and customer requirements to develop accurate cost estimates for custom projects. This role involves calculating material costs, labor hours, and overhead expenses to ensure precise pricing, helping the company secure new business while maintaining profitability. The Estimator collaborates with sales, procurement, applications engineering, and production teams to deliver competitive quotes and optimize cost efficiencies. Estimator II builds on experience, handling more complex projects and contributing to process improvements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Review customer requests for quotes (RFQs), technical drawings, and project specifications to determine the scope of work and estimate material costs based on quantity, type, and supplier pricing.
• Estimate material costs based on quantity, type, and supplier pricing or coordinate with an Applications Engineer as needed.
• Determine labor hours required for production, including fabrication, assembly, and finishing, using established labor rates or coordinate with an Applications Engineer as needed.
• Collaborate with sales, procurement, and Applications Engineers to ensure proposals align with customer needs, project specifications, and cost competitiveness.
• Maintain organized documentation in ERP/CRM systems and assist in refining estimating tools, processes, and cost databases.
• Lead cost estimation for moderately complex projects, ensuring alignment with design specifications and providing necessary information to Applications Engineers for complex designs.
• Independently analyze historical data to evaluate and refine labor and material cost assumptions, applying judgment to identify strategic cost-saving opportunities through alternative materials or optimized production processes.
• Exercise discretion in providing technical guidance to sales and procurement teams on pricing strategies and cost implications and actively contribute to vendor selection and negotiation by assessing trade-offs and long-term impacts.
• Review and approve junior estimators’ cost estimates, using professional judgment to ensure accuracy, alignment with project goals, and adherence to company policies and estimating standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:

· Passion for customer experience excellence with strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills; bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
· Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple deadlines, and demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills.
· Technical aptitude with electrical power knowledge and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, assembly, finishing, fabrication, and material selection).
· High accuracy in data entry, cost calculations, and process alignment, with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word) and ERP systems (EPICOR experience is a plus).
· Ability to analyze data, identify trends in cost estimation, and interpret engineering drawings.
· Proficiency in estimating software, advanced ERP functions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize cost structures.
· Intermediate knowledge of sourcing and vendor negotiation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a strong focus on cost estimating.
• Proven ability to manage mid-level project estimations with minimal supervision.
