Research Assistant Opportunity
Project: Faculty Onboarding and Mentorship Development
Dr. Shehnaz Alidina is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant to support the development of structured onboarding and mentorship initiatives for new faculty in the College of Nursing. The project involves reviewing onboarding and mentorship models from other institutions, identifying promising practices, and helping to design a phased onboarding plan tailored to the College. The RA will assist with background research, documentation, and preparation of materials to support implementation planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a scan of faculty onboarding and mentorship programs from U15 nursing schools and other relevant institutions
- Review literature on effective onboarding and academic mentorship models, particularly in health professional education
- Working with the Associate Dean,
- consult faculty to identify their onboarding needs and experiences
- Support the drafting of a phased onboarding plan tailored to the College’s context
- Engage with university partners involved in onboarding (e.g., libraries, research offices, teaching and learning centers) to gather input and collaboratively develop relevant components of the onboarding plan
- Assist in documenting key recommendations, timelines, and program structures (e.g., tables, diagrams, templates)
- Support development of engagement strategies (e.g., welcome events, informal faculty meetups, college tours)
- Perform other tasks as identified to support onboarding and mentorship planning
Desirable Skills and Attributes:
- Strong research and synthesis skills, especially in literature and policy review
- Excellent written communication and organization skills
- Interest in faculty development, academic planning, or higher education
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage timelines
- Experience using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and basic project planning tools
This position offers hands-on experience in academic planning, institutional research, and the design of faculty development initiatives in a health education setting.
Required Number of Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week. Weekly hours may vary based on need.
Duration of Employment: September 2025 to December 2025
