Intervene in and reclaim the lives of 16-to-18-year-old at-risk youth, producing program graduates with the values, life skills, education, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as productive Louisiana citizens.
JCP is a voluntary program that target youth who are at risk of not completing high school. We provide an environment for youth so they may focus on completing academic goals while enhancing personal strengths and resiliency. Our program provides a structured environment and teaches discipline, self-control and motivation. We develop the whole person by focusing on 8 core components that support each cadet’s personal development: academic excellence, life coping skills, job skills training, responsible citizenship, leader/followership, health & hygiene, physical fitness and service to community.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Supervises a Welding Instructor, Culinary Instructor, and Education Specialist, and is responsible for implementing, scheduling, and overseeing three on-site academic programs: Welding, Culinary, and Adult Education. Additionally, represents JCP in the communication and coordination of three off-site programs at River Parishes Community College and Baton Rouge Community College, working closely with partner institutions to ensure offerings meet the needs of JCP Associates and align with the organization’s mission and core components. Develops, manages, and de-conflicts the weekly academic program schedule, ensuring all departments are informed of last-minute updates. As the Program Registrar, maintains student records, tracks course data, and verifies academic performance meets graduation requirements. Oversees the intake process and orientation schedule for all five trades multiple times per year, coordinating with the Education Programs Admissions Department to ensure students meet entry requirements, understand application processes, and are prepared for the expectations of their trade. This includes managing cross-departmental coordination to successfully process the intake of up to 50 associates in a single day. Additional duties include collaborating with the Director, Deputy Director, Residential Advisor Department, and other relevant departments to maintain order in the Academics Department; meeting academic goals set by JCP; completing required paperwork and training; preparing and reviewing PER documents; counseling instructional staff; reviewing and approving payroll; and maintaining a positive classroom environment for over 100 associates. Analyzes departmental problems and recommends solutions to executive leadership, schedules and processes paperwork for HiSET testing, occasionally transport HiSET students to testing sites, compiles and submits data for quarterly, bi-annual, and annual reports to the Louisiana Education Programs and National Guard Bureau, and oversees ordering of supplies and books while ensuring timely vendor payments. They serve as Safety Officer for the Academic Department, report accidents to the JCP Safety Coordinator, attend executive-level staff meetings, maintain building inventories and furnishings in good condition, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures issued by executive leadership. Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with three years’ experience in education and must hold a current Louisiana Teaching Certificate (submit copy with application). Preferred experience in Adult Education to include the administration of TABE and HiSet examinations and prior education leadership or supervisory positions. Knowledge of educational software programs to include HiSet programs and Work Key. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook). Knowledge of standardized testing and testing security. Must be computer literate in various educational programs. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires working independently with general guidance and the ability to work and communicate effectively with co-workers, peers, superiors and subordinates.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid Driver's License, Social Security Card and Birth Certificate.
Must qualify to obtain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) Card.
Must be available to report to duty during emergency or disaster situations. Other periodic travel may be required.
Must meet physical requirements to perform functions of the position.
Must attend/complete all Louisiana Military Department (LMD) annual training and other training required for the position.
Must adhere to the Code of Ethics and foster a Sexual Harassment-Free Environment.

- LMD is a substance abuse and drug free workplace. The selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation and pre-employment drug test. Thereafter, all employees are subject to random drug testing.
- To become an employee of the LMD you must be a current member of the Louisiana National Guard or eligible for membership in the Louisiana State Guard.
