Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County has an opening for part time Healthy Store Community Initiative (HCSI) Educator working from the Buffalo, NY office.

The Healthy Store Community Initiative (HCSI) Educator will work under the direction and supervision of the Healthy Community Store Initiative (HCSI) Program Manager to serve as a program advocate and help support the work of the Healthy Community Store Initiative (HCSI), and coalition partners to positively impact the health of community members by providing program support and assistance.

The HCSI Educator will assist with store owner training, marketing, and recruiting youth and adult advocates to encourage participation and program expansion.

    

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent Education. (Associate Degree plus 2 years transferable, relevant evidence-based research experience may substitute).
•    Experience relevant to the role of the position
•    Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. 
•    Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
•    Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.
•    Proficiency with Windows-based software, including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
•    Ability to effectively work with community partners and youth in a variety of communities 
•    Familiarity with community-based partners, both public and private, and the ability to assist with coalition/advisory groups. 
•    Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community, and professional leaders. 
•    Ability to plan, teach, and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups. 
•    Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information. 
•    Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks, deadlines, requirements, and priorities to complete work promptly and within established deadlines. 
•    Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Two years of Nutrition education, Community Health or related experience with community engagement and outreach. 
•    Experience working with community partners, coalitions, and youth in diverse communities.
•    Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations
•    Familiarity with community-based partners, both public and private, and the ability to assist with the coalition/advisory groups. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Program Delivery - 70%
•    Deliver high-quality program and community engagement that address identified program goals and objectives. 
•    Utilize a variety of methods, which may include direct engagement, focus groups, surveys, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, social media, and distance learning to promote, empower, and encourage community participation. 
•    Assist with program activities, including store tours, tabling, and educational displays. 
•    Assist the HCSI Program Manager in facilitating HCSI trainings, workshops, and activities. 
•    Utilize existing materials and framework to assist in recruiting, training, and engaging participants and store owners. 
•    Serve as subject matter resource utilizing existing subject matter resources and materials. 
•    Interact with program participants representing CCE in a professional manner at all times. 
•    Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land-grant Universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery. 

Program Evaluation - 5%
•    Implement and support program evaluation as designed. 
•    Interact with program participants, program committees, and other key stakeholders as identified to collect evaluation data. 
•    Assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure, and methods. 
•    Communicate evaluation results and findings. • Assist in recommending program changes to strengthen and improve programs. 

Administrative Direction - 5%
•    Assist with identifying program priorities and goals in consultation and collaboration with supervisor, HCSI Coalition, and other agency partners, and/or community constituents to expand the sale and marketing of affordable, nutritious food in stores. 
•    Assist in identifying activities and resources necessary to implement identified initiatives and projects.
•    Assist with identifying key relationships to build sustainable programming. 
•    May provide input to planning budget based on program feasibility needs and assist in identifying opportunities for fund development activities.
•    Assist with identifying and making recommendations for changes to address identified gaps/needs within the HCSI program.

Administrative Management - 5%
•    Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the operation of programming, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures, and with the guidance of a supervisor as needed.
•    Assist with identifying and recommending program needs (i.e., program supplies and materials). 
•    Assist with identifying ways to reduce costs and maximize existing resources within the Association. 

Administrative Coordination/Operation - 10%
•    Organize and assist with program activities related to the HCSI program, such as corner store tours, tabling displays, display educational and marketing resources at HCSI stores and other locations (libraries, BPS Parent Centers, community centers); and display in-store shelf-talkers, posters, and check pads to encourage participation and behavior change. 
•    Assist with routine check-ins at HCSI stores to gather updates and to check in-store resources, including posters, shelf-talkers, and other messaging. 
•    Collaborate with community agencies as required to facilitate program, special events, and activities 
•    Coordinate and assist with special projects and outreach efforts as required by supervisor. 
•    Coordinate the schedule of HCSI community advocates and activities. 
•    Assist with identified administrative aspects of the position, including but not limited to preparing correspondence, maintaining files, maintaining participant records, etc., ensuring confidentiality of all information. 
•    Schedule, coordinate, facilitate, and/or attend project-related meetings and conference calls as required or as needed. 
•    Assist with implementation, execution, and maintenance of communication with participants and the community through a variety of methods such as newsletters, emails, electronic technology, internet, social media, website postings, and content. 
•    Maintain records, complete reports, accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program evaluation process. 
•    Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. 
•    Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.
•    Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.
•    Transport self and/or program materials/resources necessary for performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement - 5%
•    In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
•    Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and events as scheduled/required. 

Health and Safety - Applies to all duties and functions
•    Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
•    Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
•    Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Policy and Other Duties as Assigned - Applies to all duties and functions
•    Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned. 
•    Conduct all programming and activities in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. 
•    Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, procedures, processes, and Skills for Success. 
•    Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner at all times. 
•    Perform all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.
•    Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

POSITION DETAILS
Expected Weekly Hours: 35 hours per week (Part-Time)
Hourly Wage: $25.00 per hour.

Location: Based from the Buffalo, NY office
