About Robin Hood

Founded in 1988, Robin Hood finds, fuels, and creates the most impactful and scalable solutions lifting families out of poverty in New York City. The largest poverty fighting organization in New York City, Robin Hood partners with top nonprofits in New York City and invests in legal services, housing, meals, workforce development training, education programs, and other vital services that give New Yorkers in need the tools they need to build better lives. The programs it funds are often the first of their kind and serve as demonstration models to identify what works before being replicated in other cities. Because its Board of Directors covers 100% of all administrative, fundraising, and evaluation costs, every dollar donated goes directly to organizations helping New Yorkers in need. 

While Robin Hood’s primary focus is on New York, its impact extends far beyond the borders of the city. Its pioneering, metrics-based approach has become the gold standard for charities around the nation as Robin Hood works to understand and evaluate the impact of its partners to ensure that its philanthropic dollars are utilized to maximum impact. Robin Hood also supports its community partners and their leaders with financial and strategic support and management assistance that allows those organizations to maximize their impact.

Building on our 30 years of experience, Robin Hood is expanding our impact with an explicit focus on lifting families sustainably and measurably out of poverty through supporting the most effective community partners; influencing public policy; raising our thought leadership profile; importing and exporting effective ideas and strategies nationally; and building new collaborations with strategic partners. As New York City emerges from the worst of the global pandemic, we are focused on getting families back on their feet; getting kids back on track; and getting New Yorkers back to work.

Robin Hood also understands that if we are to support families living in poverty and find permanent pathways out of poverty and towards financial independence, we must become an effective partner with government, especially at the City and State levels. We do this by leveraging the expertise of those who are closest to the challenges of poverty, including community members, community-based organizations, and others with specialized skills and knowledge. We also aim to collaborate with New York City government to fund program and policy innovations that hold the promise of expanding economic opportunity in New York City – providing nimble “risk capital” for high-potential strategies. In this way, we seek to leverage our philanthropic investments by finding ways to advance the highest-impact strategies at scale.

Given its long-standing reputation among influencers and support of over 200 New York City non-profit organizations, Robin Hood has the unique ability to be a catalyzing force for households experiencing poverty, bringing distinct constituencies together to develop and spread the most effective strategies to advance economic mobility in New York City and beyond. 

 

Position Overview

The Associate, Program and Impact (P&I) is a critical role designed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our grantmaking teams. Robin Hood’s grantmaking aligns with life stage milestones for economic mobility from early childhood to adulthood. This role will support two P&I grantmaking teams, Adults and Young Adults, and report to each team’s managing director. The role will work in close collaboration with the program officers and senior program officers who make up each team.

Critical components of Robin Hood’s grantmaking approach include due diligence to deeply understand the work of nonprofits, either as new applicants for funding or as current grantees; data collection and analysis to understand the impact of each grant investment; and the application of a benefit/cost approach to frame our funding decisions. Other important elements include conducting landscape analyses to keep abreast of sector trends and identifying potential new areas of work in the fight against poverty. The Associate will play a key role in ensuring the rigor and impact of our grantmaking.

 

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Supporting the Grantmaking Process

  • Assist managing directors and other program team staff with due diligence for new and continuing investments on a quarterly basis.
  • Assist in landscape analyses developed by each team, supporting research, analysis, and presentation.
  • Support the team’s financial analysis of portfolio organizations.
  • Assist team members in the analysis of outcome data from final reports submitted by Robin Hood’s community partners. Provides summaries as directed.
  • In support of team members, attend meetings, including site visits with Robin Hood community partners, and take notes as directed.
  • Draft grant recommendations under the supervision of the managing directors or other program team members, as assigned.
  • Draft contract goals for grants after board approval under the supervision of the managing directors or other program team members, as assigned.
  • Support the teams in creating impactful PowerPoint presentations to convey their work to diverse audiences, internally and externally. Support the teams as they work to incorporate AI into our workstreams.

Administration

  • Provide administrative support to each team, as directed, including scheduling, meeting management, and note-taking.
  • Participate in other general functions and duties of the P&I team, including support for our development and communications teams.
  • Provide support in the logistical aspects of running successful convenings or conferences that are critical to our work


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with at least one to two years of work experience
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills
  • Excellent project management skills with attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starter skilled at timely completion of tasks with minimal support
  • Customer service orientation and good interpersonal skills
  • Team player and collaborator, likes to work in small, highly collaborative teams and is willing to go above and beyond the specifics of a job description to help the team succeed
  • Commitment to Robin Hood’s poverty-fighting mission and continuous learning
  • A creative and flexible problem-solver willing to change course in the face of new feedback or data
  • Thrives in fast-paced, action-oriented environments and is comfortable juggling multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • Excellent Microsoft Office suite skills (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), and open to learning new digital tools, including AI

Salary and Benefits

Robin Hood offers a competitive compensation package, with a salary range determined by years of experience, skills, and abilities. Each candidate’s placement within the range will be based on these factors while ensuring alignment with our commitment to equitable internal pay practices. 

Our extensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 403(b) retirement plan with employer match, and a 12% employer contribution to a 401(a) retirement plan. We also support a healthy work-life balance by providing new hires with 20 days of accrued paid time off. This position is based in New York City and follows a hybrid work environment. Employees are required to work on-site three (3) days per week, with Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday designated as the standard in-office days. Please note that the hybrid schedule is subject to change based on organizational priorities and team needs. Any adjustments will be communicated well in advance.

 

The salary range for this position is $66,680 - $70,000.
