The Accounting Assistant supports the finance and accounting department by performing routine clerical and accounting tasks. This role is responsible for maintaining financial records, processing transactions, assisting with reporting, and ensuring accuracy in data entry and document management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a financial environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial and sensitive information
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in banking and/or higher education
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following;
- Provide support for special projects and financial reporting requirements.
- Assist with accounts receivable and payable transactions as needed.
- Assist with bank reconciliations and account reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial documents.
- Communicate with vendors and internal staff to resolve payment inquiries.
- Monitor budgets and expenditures as directed by the accounting team.
- Process interdepartmental expenditures.
- Assist college staff with financial arrangements for events held at the college for fundraising and extracurricular activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Controller.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook email and calendar management
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize and communicate clearly and effectively in a timely manner
- Strong written and verbal business communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team
- Be familiar with basic accounting transactions
- Basic knowledge of general ledger structure.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to do the following:
- Communicate with others in person, phone, and via email
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
- Must have ability to walk, climb stairs, stand, bend, and squat
