We Are Looking to Add a Key Member to Our Internal Audit Team!
 

The Lead Internal Auditor will be responsible for managing and providing leadership to complex audit projects and leading financial, operational, and compliance audits across all departments of the GreatAmerica organization. The goal of the role is to evaluate and improve the organization’s risk management, internal control, and governance processes while building strong and collaborative relationships across the organization and playing a key role in supervision of departmental audit activities.

As a Lead Internal Auditor, you will:

  • Oversee end-to-end internal audit engagements across various departments according to the annual audit plan, ensuring timely completion and adherence to professional standards.
  • Supervise and mentor audit staff and seniors, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality execution of audit engagements.
  • Lead comprehensive risk assessments across departments to shape audit scope and ensure alignment with enterprise risk priorities.
  • Oversee and guide audit teams in conducting interviews and documenting end-to-end processes and controls, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Supervise and coordinate control testing activities across audit engagements, including Internal Control Over Financial Reporting (ICFR) key controls.
  • Independently identify and communicate control issues to Senior Leadership, providing creative and practical recommendations.
  • Oversee the drafting, review, and issuance of audit reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with professional standards and organizational expectations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors/regulators during engagements, ensuring efficient coordination and resolution of audit-related inquiries.
  • Monitor updates to audit standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements, and integrate them into audit planning and team execution to drive continuous improvement.
  • Promotes GreatAmerica principles and actively engages in cross-functional efforts that support organizational goals, while maintaining audit independence and objectivity.
  • Performs other duties as necessary

To be successful in this role you will need:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field - or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
     

Experience

  • At least 5+ years of progressive experience in audit, risk management, or equivalent, including experience supervising and leading audit responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO), risk management practices, and audit methodologies across complex business processes.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Visio flowcharting software.
  • Ability to learn AuditBoard software efficiently and effectively and prior knowledge and experience with GRC software tools.
  • Experience with analytics software is a plus.
  • Proven ability to build relationships across all levels of an organization and influence change.
  • Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Must be open to occasional travel; however, it is expected to be minimal and rare
