JOB TITLE: Interior Design Specialist (Advanced)

REPORTS TO: SABG Facilities Program Manager
FLSA STATUS: Regular Full-Time Exempt
SUMMARY: SABG is hiring an Interior Design Specialist to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in Huntsville, Alabama (HSV). The Specialist will support the AOF Facilities Design Team and Government customers to execute day-to-day mission planning.

- Capable of leading, coordinating, and executing specialized facility planning, design, construction, maintenance, sustainment, and assessment activities.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and facility design team to provide site and office planning, design, layout and configuration recommendations for commercial facilities that adhere to building and safety codes but are also functional and aesthetically pleasing
- Assist in space planning and interior design activities to include military construction (MILCON), reconfiguration, renovation, and remodel projects
- Provide assistance and recommendations to design and configure space with the capability to communicate to the customer throughout the design process
- Provide site and office planning, and configuration recommendations
- Advise the client on interior design factors such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, and color coordination
- Select and/or design furniture fixtures and equipment and prepare bills of materials for purchase
- Create specifications of furniture and provide cost estimates providing analysis and justifications
- Assist with oversight and quality control of furniture and furnishings installations, assembly, disassembly in compliance with American Disability Act and local building codes
- Assist in the development of detailed Statements of Work for all facility related projects in support of MDA Program requirements
- Attend meetings to ensure all project requirements are captured and identified to better support the customers’ needs
- Must be able to develop strong rapport with personnel representing organizations internal to MDA
- Ability to resolve issues and make sound decisions which are in the best interest of the government customer
- Ability to work independently, organize, and prioritize work
- Ability to learn and support multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment

SUPERVISION: This position has supervisory responsibilities, overseeing a team of interior designers located in Huntsville, AL, Ft. Belvoir, VA, and Colorado Springs, CO. Position will oversee and manage employees to ensure that work is completed effectively and efficiently. Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing daily operations, ensuring work and tasks are completed on time and meeting all set requirements
- Assign tasks, roles, and responsibilities as required
- Monitor employee performance by conducting training, identifying areas of improvement, and providing constructive feedback
- Resolving workplace issues, addressing conflicts, handling employee concerns, and ensuring a positive work environment
- Communicating company policies, procedures and goals to the team
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Capable of comprehending interior design to support stakeholder requirements. Has specialized relevant knowledge and works as a member of the team and assists with solving complex problems. Intermediate level working knowledge, skills, and abilities using Microsoft Office and Adobe software suites is required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree (degree to be in Interior Design from a CIDA accredited program preferred) with 6 years of relevant experience with a BA/BS or 8 years of relevant experience with an AA/AS degree
- NCIDQ Certificate holder is a plus
- Experience leading and mentoring a team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment preferred
- Experience with specifying or space planning of systems furniture is required
- Experience preferred in reviewing draft request for proposals (RFP); components including scopes of work (SOW); performance work statements (PWS); facilities requirements documents (FRD), drawing construction packages, and design submittals
- Experience writing and evaluating technical furniture specifications desired
- Knowledge of all aspects of interior design including tenant improvement, space planning, programming, and all applicable codes (IBC, ADA, NFPA, Life Safety)
- Experience with developing and preparing Comprehensive and Structural Interior Design packages (CID/SID)
- Experience briefing Senior Executives and Leadership preferred
- Must possess strong writing and analytical skills to conduct planning and trend analysis
- Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, able to take direction and support multiple projects, able to work collaboratively with teams across the MDA enterprise; work well within a team, interact with multiple levels of management, and be able to manage customer and contractor relationships
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Skills in operating a personal computer and standard office equipment
- Intermediate experience with AutoCAD is a plus
- Intermediate experience with CAP 20/20 Studio software is a plus
- Must have proficiency in a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, and database (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Knowledge of ARCHIBUS software a plus
CLEARANCE: Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
