POSITION SUMMARY:

JCCA is seeking a Benefits and Leave Specialist to join our dynamic HR team. In this essential role, you’ll work closely with the Director of Benefits and other HR team members to administer employee benefits and leave programs with care, accuracy, and compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Benefits Administration

  • Partner with the Director of Benefits to manage day-to-day operations of medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 403(b), and other voluntary benefit plans.
  • Oversee programs like tuition reimbursement and child care subsidies.
  • Support open enrollment: prepare materials, host information sessions, and guide staff through elections.
  • Respond to employee benefit inquiries and coordinate with brokers or vendors as needed.
  • Ensure accurate data entry in HRIS and process benefit changes in a timely manner.
  • Assist with benefit invoice reconciliation and liaise with Finance to ensure timely payments.

Leave of Absence Management

  • Educate employees on leave options (FMLA, PFL, STD, WC, LTD, etc.) and ensure timely distribution of forms and notices.
  • Communicate with payroll and carriers regarding leaves to ensure accurate reporting and benefits continuity.
  • Maintain regular contact with staff on leave; provide updates on status, benefits, and return-to-work timelines.
  • Track all leave activity and provide regular reports; ensure timekeeping systems reflect accurate leave codes.
  • Work with managers and HR to ensure alignment between leave policies and attendance tracking.

Reasonable Accommodations

  • Guide staff through the process of requesting accommodations, including documentation and the interactive process.
  • Partner with the Director of Benefits to evaluate requests and communicate outcomes.
  • Track, document, and maintain confidentiality of all accommodation requests and outcomes.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g. FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive employee data.
  • Support internal and external audits as needed.
  • Recommend updates to policies based on evolving laws and best practices.

     

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in benefits and leave administration, preferably in a nonprofit or human services setting.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state leave laws and benefits regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint); experience with ADP is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A respectful, compassionate, and professional approach to employee support.

SALARY: $70K - 80K
