Role Purpose:
Set, implement, and achieve underwriting profit goals in accordance with business plan. Ensure underwriting integrity through appropriate deployment of underwriting guidelines and controls, consistency of approach towards risk selection, pricing, and the correct use of capacity whilst recognising market conditions, demonstrating adaptability to changing market and regulatory environments.
Key responsibilities:
- Underwrite new business and complex renewals according to defined underwriting guidelines, specified budget and local business plan, aligning coverage with risk and applying critical thinking to risk selection and pricing.
- Portfolio Management:
- Define and build an underwriting strategy, forecast and portfolio management to achieve underwriting profitability, leveraging data insights to inform decisions and manage the portfolio strategically.
- Ensure quality control within defined area of responsibility by undertaking quantitative underwriting review to develop best performers segments.
- Product Development:
- Pprioritize and develop products within Fire Line to improve client retention and new business, demonstrating adaptability and opportunity management in response to evolving client needs.
- The above involves collaborating with peers within and across business lines in Europe.
- Sales Discipline:
- Represent and promote Chubb to brokers increasing Chubb market visibility, showcasing business presentation skills and building strong relationships.
- Have a clear targeting and defined broker visit plan.
- Pipeline Management.
- Maximize cross selling in collaboration with other lines of business, demonstrating sales acumen and cross-selling ability.
- Work closely with the Middle Market Manager in Madrid to ensure we optimize all new business opportunities, and we reinforce our brand within the broker community in Spain.
- Compliance and procedures:
- Comply with all policies, controls, authorities, and reporting requirements, ensuring contract knowledge and accurate documentation of underwriting thought processes.
- Work within the framework of Chubb service standards, meeting company standards in respect of policy documentation, timeframe for quoting new and renewal business and compliance issues.
- Work within the framework of Chubb ethical standards.
Qualifications
Skills / Experience Required:
- Engineer background is a plus, if not bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economic or similar.
- Spanish native or bilingual. Proficiency in English.
- At least 3 years’ experience as Property Underwriter.
- Used to work in a multinational company.
- Comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the product line, the Spanish insurance market, and competitors.
- Solid experience in dealing with brokers and clients. Ability to negotiate and get profitable business in accordance with company UW guidelines.
- Results driven with ability to make own decisions within the scope of technical Underwriting Guides and developed strategy line and work on own initiative, with strong prioritization of work and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in underwriting and risk analysis without reliance on reinsurance market.
- Excellent communication and commercial skills.
- Client orientated and business focus, delivering premium service and maintaining portfolio integrity.
- Understanding on how individual underwriting decisions impact on business results
- Advance user of Microsoft office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
