About the Department
The John Spellman Library at Grays Harbor College is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Library and Archives Paraprofessional 1 who enjoys working directly with library users. The ideal candidate will be flexible, have strong customer service skills and experience, and is excited about delivering essential library services to GHC students, faculty, and staff. The primary duties of this position include serving library users at the circulation with outstanding customer service and knowledge of the library’s automation software, and leading work study student employees through these tasks. This position will refer users to librarians or senior staff when appropriate.
Library hours are typically 7:30am-5pm weekdays, but are subject to change. This position will work a regular schedule during opening hours. A flexible work schedule may be possible, per college policy, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements, in order to maximize coverage in the library as needed.

Position Duties
In addition to the above, other duties may include:
- Following opening and closing procedures to prepare and secure the library;
- Leading circulation operations in the absence of the Director of Library Services;
- Overseeing and assisting student workers at the library circulation desk;
- Loaning materials to patrons;
- Running reports to retrieve and process held items from the shelves;
- Receiving, processing, and maintaining the library’s periodical collection under guidance from the Director of Library Services;
- Receiving and processing books and other resources under guidance from the Library and Archival Paraprofessional 3 in Technical Services;
- Assisting in the maintenance of budget and inventory spreadsheets, as necessary;
- Maintaining course reserves according to established procedures;
- Receiving and processing Inter-Library Loan requests;
- Assisting library users with lost item or fine inquiries under guidance from the Director of Library Services;
- Assisting library users with library computers and equipment, including logging into library computers, printing, using the copier/scanner, etc.;
- Mending and repairing books and leading student employees in book repair;
- Recording regular usage statistics within the building;
- Maintaining the appearance of the library, including placing work orders for maintenance issues;
- Leading student employees in daily tasks;
- Supports the Art Gallery programming and events with assistance including exhibition installation, shopping and preparing refreshments, creating and dispersing promotional materials, and overall organization;
- Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated organizational ability, such as filing
- Demonstrated experience working in a customer service setting
- Professional experience working with the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Previous experience working in a library setting
- Previous experience working in a community college or other academic setting
- Experience working with library automation systems, especially Alma
