POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Financial Aid Advisor provides advanced support in administering financial aid programs for prospective and current students. In addition to managing the awarding, disbursing, and returning of federal, state, and other financial aid funds, the Senior Financial Aid Advisor serves as a resource and mentor to Financial Aid Advisors, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and federal and state regulations. This position reports to the Campus Director/Director/Associate Director of Financial Aid with accountability to the Corporate/Regional Director of Financial Aid.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Provide guidance to students and parents regarding financial aid program requirements, application processes, and eligibility.
- Advise students and parents on financial aid plans, ensuring they understand their rights and responsibilities.
- Review and verify financial aid applications and supporting documents for accuracy and completeness; complete verification procedures as required.
- Process FAFSAs, review ISIR results, and maintain financial aid funding schedules in Anthology.
- Conduct entrance and exit counseling sessions with students.
- Mentor and support Financial Aid Advisors by assisting with training, complex case resolution, and compliance oversight.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial aid files and documentation.
- Collaborate with Admissions and other departments to support student enrollment, retention, and success.
- Assist with monitoring compliance, including internal audits, reconciliation, and adherence to Title IV regulations.
- Stay informed on all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and requirements.
- Participate in financial aid workshops, trainings, and conferences.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations relating to financial aid and Title IV programs.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, and support team members.
- Strong customer service orientation and commitment to student success.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and the public.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet research.
- Experience with student financial aid software systems.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of (3) years of Financial Aid experience is required.
- Previous experience in a lead or senior financial aid role strongly preferred.
- Experience in staff training, compliance, and reconciliation is a plus.
