Security Systems Designer at Orion Security Solutions

Orion Security Solutions is seeking a qualified Security Systems Designer for a full-time position to be based in Carrollton, TX. The purpose of the Security System Designer is to prepare, design, engineer, draft, and document drawings for Physical Security Systems including, Access Control, CCTV, Intrusion Detection, and Structured Cabling Systems with moderate to higher levels of complexity. In order to ensure design quality, some travel may be required. The Security Systems Designer reports to the Director of Design and collaborates with lead/peer designers to continuously develop standards, best practices, and operational efficiencies. 

 Duties and Responsibilities 

• Thorough knowledge and understanding of CAD including but not limited to the following: Menus, Layers and Layer Controls, Blocks, X-references, Backgrounds, Viewports, File Structures, etc. 

• CAD experience in setting up and maintaining an organized file system of design drawings as well as standards for consistent design practices (such as project templates, standard title blocks, drawing lists, etc.) Preferably experience in AutoCAD.

• Obtaining working knowledge of the product lines and related parts used by Orion Security Solutions. 

• Actively participate in personal and professional development and maintain knowledge of current and new technologies that the company offers. 
• Ability to travel to sites for site surveys gathering information to complete a design, or to assist the Sales Team in the assembly of a quote. 

• Attention to detail, a strong work ethic and an ability to perform well in all conditions. 

Skills and Abilities 

• Design Physical Security Systems including Surveillance/CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion Detection and Structured Cabling Systems, etc. 

• Ability to conceptualize technical component interactions in installation environments to ensure a functional design prior to physical installation. 

• Ability to read and understand technical specifications and project drawings including floor plans, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, control panel layouts, etc. 

• Helping the Sales and Technical staff interpret project specifications and drawings for determining most efficient system layout 

• Ability to prepare As-Installed drawings based on field drawing markups through coordination with Sales, Project Managers and Technicians.  

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Minimum two-year technical degree in electrical/electronic systems or related field or equivalent experience 

• Strong oral, written communication and analytic skills. 

• Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task. 

• Ability to adjust to shifting priorities 

• Must possess a strong sense of urgency 

Desired Qualifications 

• Three years of experience in electronic systems design and installation 
• Familiarity with local AHJs and permitting requirements
• 1+ years of AutoCAD experience
• Experience with Bluebeam

• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
