JOB TITLE: Director of Lending
REPORTS TO: Sr. Vice President of Lending
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
WORK ARRANGEMENT: Hybrid (onsite a minimum of 3 days a week)
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Director of Lending provides strategic leadership and oversight of all lending functions, including mortgage, consumer, and commercial lending. This role ensures the Credit Union’s loan portfolio remains sound, profitable, and compliant with regulatory standards while supporting organizational goals. The Director drives portfolio growth, manages credit risk, develops lending strategies, and fosters a high-performing, service-focused culture aligned with the credit union’s values and K.E.G. of Excellence.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct and oversee mortgage and commercial lending operations, ensuring efficient processes and strong portfolio performance.
- Develop, implement, and monitor lending policies, programs, and underwriting standards.
- Drive business development and identify new lending opportunities that support strategic goals.
- Optimize lending processes to improve efficiency, turnaround times and member satisfaction.
- Ensure consistent application of credit union policies, procedures, and underwriting standards.
- Identify and develop new lending products and services to meet members’ needs and expand market reach.
- Implement pricing, promotion, and cross-selling strategies that align with the credit union’s goals.
- Build relationships with members, community organizations, and business partners to drive loan growth.
- Maintain a strong credit culture through sound underwriting, portfolio diversification, and ongoing risk assessment.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state lending regulations and internal policies.
- Lead, coach, and develop lending managers and teams to achieve sales, service, and quality goals.
- Collaborate with internal partners to ensure effective risk management and loan quality control.
- Represent the Credit Union in community and business relationships to strengthen market presence.
- Oversee departmental budgets, staffing, and operational efficiencies.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience managing lending teams.
- In-depth knowledge of credit union or banking lending practices, products, and regulatory requirements.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills.
- Proficient in lending systems (Symitar and Meridian Link a plus), reporting, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to build collaboration across teams and foster continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ management experience in lending operations.
- 3–5 years’ experience in credit union or banking environment.
- Working knowledge of the EOS framework, a plus
- A personal smartphone with the capability of uploading the latest operating versions of
IOS or Android, is required
