🎯 Position Overview
The Financial Counselor Lead plays a vital role in supporting patients and their families by ensuring the financial aspects of care are clearly communicated and handled with compassion. This position leads efforts to:
- Assist patients with understanding payment processes
- Provide guidance on insurance coverage and billing
- Support front-end financial operations
- Serve as a resource for team members and help resolve escalated concerns

Essential Functions
- Delivers exemplary customer service in alignment with Orlando Health’s standards and departmental goals.
- Maintains a positive, professional demeanor and communicates effectively with patients, families, and team members.
- Identifies and resolves customer service issues, initiating follow-up and implementing service recovery when appropriate.
- Accurately gathers and inputs patient and guarantor demographic and financial information.
- Explains necessary forms and obtains required signatures from patients or guarantors.
- Verifies insurance benefits and obtains authorizations by contacting appropriate payers.
- Uses reporting tools to follow up on pending, denied, or appealed insurance claims.
- Clearly explains insurance benefits and collects co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions.
Education & Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must complete annual Corporate and Patient Financial Services educational requirements
Licensure/Certification:
- None required
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in a financial, business office, or customer service environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Typing proficiency required
- At least one (1) year of PC/Windows experience
