Essential Duties and responsibilities
Select Genetics presents a solid platform to serve customers nationally and internationally by providing quality poults, service, and innovation. Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults to growers and companies worldwide.
The QC Lab Tech will:
- Salmonella sampling- samples are collected pre-placement of birds and throughout the flock
- Sample collection for monitoring of bird health, and investigative sample collection
- Perform necropsies & laboratory work (fecal evaluation, semen quality evaluation, basic microbiological plating, etc.) Pre-placement audits- these audits look at the quality of cleaning and preparedness to start a new flock. They are done in conjunction with the pre-placement salmonella sampling
- Egg room audits- include a series of bacterial sampling in the egg house and looking at the cleanliness of the environment and the eggs.
- Biosecurity and animal welfare audits.
- Conduct scheduled visits to audit farms
- Assist in implementing training material evolved around animal welfare, biosecurity, pre-bird placement, and egg room audits
- Perform environmental testing as directed by the company Veterinarian and Division Manager
- Track records and training documents and distribute bird health testing results.
At all times, the QC Lab Tech will:
- Drive a company vehicle and must pass MVR check.
- Ensure the basic maintenance of the vehicle is completed.
- Maintain fuel levels on company vehicle.
- Have good written and verbal communication
- Follow all of the company’s rules and regulations for bio security, animal welfare and safety
- Work productively in a team environment and be willing to help in any area to get the job done
- Successfully work with live animals
- Organize and prioritize responsibilities to ensure efficient operations.
- Perform the duties of the job while constantly moving and using hands while being exposed to dust, cold, humidity, heat, chemicals and fumes.
- Sanitize and disinfect equipment.
- Demonstrate effective time management.
- Use various tools and follow protocols to disinfect equipment and facilities.
- Repair and/or direct the repair of the equipment as needed.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Work well within a flexible/variable schedule with some weekend shifts.
- Follow all company regulations pertaining to bio security, animal welfare and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
•High school diploma or equivalent required.
•Prior experience in poultry preferred.
•A valid North Carolina Driver’s License and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record required.
•Proficient reading and writing skills in English are required.
•Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.
•Bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills a plus.
