Overview:Provide management and direction to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of financial data across all accounting and investment systems. Oversee data integrity processes, implement robust data management practices, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Lead a team of professionals dedicated to maintaining the reliability of investment accounting data to guarantee precise accounting and reporting.Responsibilities:• Supervise, coach, mentor, and motivate the activities of the Data Integrity team; participate in all aspects of personnel management including hire/termination decisions, coaching for performance improvements, and performing the applicable Performance Management TIP and Merit reviews.
• Manage team and exhibit professional behavior that reflects being part of the total company team by demonstrating a positive attitude, setting aside distractions and personal bias, and holding self and others accountable for department/company goals.
• Own all aspects of data governance in the investment accounting systems, including managing relationships with custodians and asset managers to streamline inbound and outbound data feeds.
• Work closely with external investment managers, system vendors, internal reporting and investments teams to resolve data-related issues and to support data-driven decision making.
• Actively improve and participate in the execution of key controls in connection with the Model Audit Rule (MAR) with the goal of eliminating all deficiencies and maintaining an appropriate MAR control environment.
• Act as a first point of contact for users of our investment data, including answering day-to-day questions with security master files, investment trends and system functions. Serve as main point of contact for system administrator functions.
• Serve as subject matter expert (SME) and ‘go to’ individual for the department by handling complex work items and questions presented to the team. Research and understand new accounting and financial reporting requirements including in-depth knowledge of how to apply the existing statutory National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC or STAT) guidelines and most aspects of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) insurance investment accounting to our investment processes and systems.
• Serve as the product owner for the investment accounting system and lead projects with stakeholders on initiatives, enhancements and redesign of existing work flows. Efforts will require collaboration with stakeholders across multiple departments, software vendors, custodians and asset managers.
• Support proper integration of accounting book of record (ABOR) data with downstream systems. Guide improvement efforts, implementations and upgrades as needed. Interact with internal and external technical support teams to resolve issues; conduct or obtain evaluations of system performance and make modifications or adjustments as necessary.
• Continuously scrub and enhance data within the investment systems. (i.e. holdings, transactions, security master file, etc.)
• Act as project team member for system upgrades and participate in user acceptance testing associated with such upgrades. Manage projects and timelines in conjunction with IT as required. Configure, administer and verify new system requirements and updates in test environments and execute changes in production environments.
• Increase productivity within the Investment Accounting departments by developing software integrations, automating manual processes, eliminating duplication of tasks and coordinating information requirements between the various teams.
• Collaborate with team members to create and maintain process flow documentation. Analyze current state processes and examine for opportunities to build efficiencies and automation. Review and edit standard operating procedures as needed.
• Proactively manage changes to the investment accounting software and communicate with impacted users to ensure smooth adoption of any software enhancements.
• Assist with analysis of data in and out of the investment accounting system for a variety of processes, including but not limited to: valuation and pricing, prepayment speeds for mortgage-backed securities, external cash flows projections and agency and NAIC ratings.
• Provide leadership in building relationships with team members, including those with different interpersonal styles. Have trusting and respectful relationships across both corporate accounting and business unit leadership.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Management Preferred
  • Minimum 8 years' accounting, insurance, financial reporting, auditing or related experience Preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' previous investment accounting systems experience Preferred
  • Familiarity with accounting systems, key controls, audit reports, report writing tools and data analysis tools
  • Proven ability to build and maintain a strong working relationship with staff and managers within Corporate Accounting and our Asset Management partners
  • Knowledge of complex investment instruments
  • Strong command of GAAP and Statutory accounting, insurance and/or investment accounting knowledge
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with an engaging, approachable style. Active listener

Specific range is dependent on the labor market where the incumbent will be hired to perform the position. Starting salary is dependent on candidate qualifications and experience.
