We are currently seeing a Construction Inspector – Facilities to work on SHA Vertical Construction and Public Park Facilities projects in Frederick County, MD.
What You’ll Do:
The Construction Inspector – Facilities will support construction inspection for vertical building projects within Frederick County, MD, under PRIME AE’s County Inspection Services contract. This role is responsible for monitoring construction of new facilities, renovations, and maintenance projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and quality standards. Work will include inspection of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), roofing, and structural systems in active construction environments. Work will be primarily field-based across Frederick County project sites. The role involves interaction with contractors, engineers, and County representatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect vertical construction and renovation projects including schools, municipal buildings, and other County facilities.
- Monitor contractor performance for compliance with specifications, safety standards, and schedule milestones.
- Perform daily site inspections and maintain detailed electronic field reports documenting progress, materials, quantities, and non-conformance issues.
- Verify installation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components against approved drawings.
- Observe and report on concrete placement, structural steel, roofing, finishes, and equipment installation.
- Review and interpret design drawings, specifications, and RFIs; coordinate with project engineers and County representatives as needed.
- Enforce OSHA, ADA, and Erosion & Sediment Control standards on-site.
- Support project documentation including photographic records, test results, and punch list verification.
- Maintain effective communication with contractors, project managers, and client representatives to resolve field issues promptly.
What You’ll Bring:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two (2) years of experience in building construction inspection or related trade work (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roofing, or structural).
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work in field conditions, including exposure to weather and active construction sites.
- Completion of an apprenticeship or technical training in a building trade (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or similar) preferred.
- Coursework or degree in Construction Management, Civil or Architectural Engineering, or Building Technology preferred.
- Preferred Certifications such as:
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety
- MDE Responsible Personnel (E&S)
- ACI Field Concrete Testing
- NICET Building Construction or Inspection Level I/II
- Previous inspection experience on public or municipal facility projects.
- Ability and willingness to walk, stand, climb and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
