THE JOB:
Under direction, to plan, organize, and direct sports, crafts, special events, and instructional programs at a large recreation center/gymnasium; and perform related duties as required.

Position Duties
Examples of Typical Duties: The following duties and responsibilities are representative of those typically performed by positions assigned to this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these duties and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
Plans, organizes, and directs a wide variety of sports, arts and crafts, instructional, and special activities at a large recreation center/gymnasium; ensures the effective implementation of center activities by part-time recreation workers and contract instructional personnel; ensures the effective utilization of center facilities; promotes public awareness of center facilities and activities through the development and implementation of advertising and related promotional efforts; assures center facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and attractive manner; recruits, selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates part-time and contractual center staff; plans, organizes, and directs special events at the recreation center; maintains records related to center use and prepares special and regular reports; assists in the development of the recreation center budget; orders supplies and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:A bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, or related field; and two (2) years of related full-time experience in a professional community recreation program.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN: Theories, principles, and techniques of community recreational and athletic activities; theories, principles, and techniques of personnel, program, and budget management; practices and procedures involved in the management of a large community center/gymnasium facility.
ABILITY TO: Evaluate program effectiveness; develop and implement community recreational, arts and crafts, and athletic programs; plan and direct large, community-wide special events; develop and administer budgets; maintain program- and facility-related records; prepare reports; effectively communicate center goals, programs, and activities to all segments of the community; select, train, motivate, and supervise part-time and contractual personnel; establish and maintain effective relations and communication with all segments of the community.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
