POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Staff/Senior Accountant, Technical Accounting will be primarily responsible for applying accounting principles and policies to unique or complex transactions as well as interpreting new accounting and financial reporting pronouncements impacting Cheniere Energy, Inc. and its subsidiaries (collectively, the “entities”). 

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Act as a subject matter expert, working with the business and others in the accounting organization to identify and resolve complex accounting issues.

  • Prepare memoranda documenting the entities’ application of accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles in the U.S. to specific transactions or events, which may include, but are not limited to assessments regarding revenue recognition, derivatives, nonmonetary transactions and impairment.

  • Assess contracts for potential leases and determine the accounting for initial recognition of leases and any subsequent changes, if applicable.

  • Review contracts and finance transactions for accounting implications, including the identification of potential embedded derivatives.

  • Monitor U.S. standard-setters for latest accounting developments, analyze impact of new/emerging guidance/regulations on the entities and proactively develop policies to address standard adoption and implementation.

  • Assist with application of guidance pertaining to stand-alone reporting entities, including not-for-profit and FERC regulated entities. 

  • Support the SEC Reporting function by assisting in the preparation of periodic filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, including providing information to support certain disclosure requirements for leases, fair value and cash requirements.

  • Ensure timely and complete delivery of any documentation required to support external and internal audits.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP

  • Knowledge and experience with accounting research

  • Knowledge of SEC interim and annual reporting and disclosure requirements preferred

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel

  • Ability to analyze complex information, collect and research data and resolve critical matters by effectively utilizing technical, analytical and problem-solving aptitudes

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to collaborate successfully with team members and others in the organization

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely and accurate manner

  • Intellectual curiosity with a self-directed willingness to learn and seek new ideas

  • Open-minded and willing to consider alternative views and approaches

 

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS):

  • Education and Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or actively pursuing a CPA license is also required. Master’s degree in Accounting is a plus. 

  • Experience:

    • Staff: 1-3 years of applicable experience, preferably within public accounting and/or energy sector. 

    • Senior: 3+ years of applicable experience, preferably within public accounting and/or energy.
