Reporting to the AOG Manager, the AOG Materials Procurement Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for all AOG-related material needs. This role is responsible for sourcing, expediting, and coordinating logistics and customs to ensure rapid resolution of Aircraft On Ground situations. The Specialist works closely with the Maintenance Control Center (MCC) to maintain clear, timely communication and support swift decision-making. Success in this role requires a high level of initiative, adaptability, and a results-driven mindset in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 

 

Key Deliverables:

  • Actively source, negotiate, and manage optimal material solutions to support WestJet’s Aircraft-on-Ground (AOG) and MEL requirements, ensuring timely resolution
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Control Center (MCC) to gather specifications and communicate AOG status updates and solutions with urgency
  • Plan and execute expedited logistics and shipping strategies with third-party providers to meet critical delivery timelines
  • Manage international and domestic shipments, ensuring customs compliance, smooth clearance, and adherence to local and international regulations
  • Monitor and expedite open AOG and MEL orders to meet maintenance deadlines; proactively manage reverse logistics and system updates
  • Process purchase, loan, exchange, and rental orders in alignment with company policies and quality assurance standards
  • Ensure compliance with Dangerous Goods regulations (IATA and TDG) during all shipping activities
  • Apply sound judgment and problem-solving skills to complex customs transactions, leveraging experience and creativity to resolve issues
  • Prepare reports and metrics to track AOG performance and KPIs; evaluate vendor capabilities and identify service improvement opportunities
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive tasks independently 

 

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the Transportation Industry, Technical Operations, logistics, supply chain, or procurement (customs experience is a strong asset)
  • Strong background in shipping, logistics, and procurement; purchasing or inventory management designation is an asset
  • Diploma from a College or Technical School considered a strong asset
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Willingness and ability to work shift schedules, including nights and weekends
  • Familiarity with aviation parts, eMRO systems, and technical documentation (e.g., Illustrated Parts Catalogue, Aircraft Maintenance Manuals, Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, MELs)
  • IATA Dangerous Goods or Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification is an asset
  • Proven ability to multi-task, make sound decisions under pressure, and maintain a calm, respectful work environment
  • Proactive, resourceful, and driven approach to sourcing materials
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a team-oriented environment
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
