We are currently seeking a lecturer/Senior lecturer in Forensic Psychology to join our dedicated and committed team at Bath Spa University, School of Sciences.

About the Role

The School of Sciences at Bath Spa University is expanding, based on its recent successes, into health-related areas broadly. We are particularly keen to recruit someone who can contribute to these exciting, multi-disciplinary, new endeavours. The psychology subject area within the School of Sciences, is becoming known as a hub for applying psychology to also improve the lives of people in the local community; we are looking for a new lecturer/senior lecturer to join us in supporting that mission. The person we recruit will be able to work well with industry while also able to bring their experiences into the classroom successfully. We are specifically recruiting someone who can contribute to investigative, criminal, and/or forensic psychology broadly and may have some established practice-based experience. They will be able to teach professional and therapeutic skills.

The successful candidate will help design and deliver teaching content across a range of modules at Levels 4 to 6 in Psychology Programmes, as well as contributing to curriculum planning and development, and engaging in research or scholarly activity in Psychology. They will have the opportunity to develop new courses and help guide the focus of teaching and research in Psychology at Bath Spa University. They will also be engaging in relevant research and scholarly activity in support of the university’s research strategy, to inform and enhance curriculum design and to improve student experience. In addition, you will be supervising or mentoring colleagues with less experience and advising them on personal development.

About You

  • A BPS accredited degree in Psychology or a PhD

  • Recent, successful experience of university teaching in BPS-designated core areas of Psychology

  • Excellent ICT skills including e-learning tools. 

  • Working knowledge of forensic, investigative, and/or criminal psychology.

  • Experience of teaching and/or leading undergraduate modules covering areas of Psychology which either complement and/or extend our current undergraduate module offering.

  • Practice-based experience in the field of investigative, forensic, and/or criminal psychology.

  • A track record or demonstrable potential in Psychology research, professional practice and / or scholarship commensurate with career stage.

Additional Information

Salary Grade  Ac3S/Ac3A
Lecturer - Ac3S - Starting from £44,746 rising to £47,389 per annum
Senior Lecturer - Ac3A - Starting from £48,823 rising to £56,536 per annum

The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

  • Applicants with fewer than five years teaching experience in Higher Education of at least 0.8 FTE or equivalent who do not hold a Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Certificate accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or HEA fellowship will be required to complete an approved Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education course during the first two years of employment. 

  • Applicants with more than five years teaching experience in Higher Education of at least 0.8FTE or equivalent who do not hold a Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Certificate accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or HEA fellowship will be required to accredit their practice through the HEA fellowship application process during their 6-month probation period.
