What are Trust Fund Positions?
Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. OVERVIEW

This position is located organizationally in Office of Digital and Innovation (ODI), Office of the Deputy Secretary, Smithsonian Institution (SI).

SI is a diverse museum and research complex dedicated to the increase and diffusion of knowledge.  The Office of Digital and Innovation (ODI) is driving the future of how the Smithsonian advances its mission and connects with the world. ODI works centrally and within Smithsonian units to unlock the full potential of our collections and resources, better understand and serve our audiences, and pioneer innovative approaches to accelerate and scale our impact—all while empowering staff across the Smithsonian with the tools and skills they need to success in and ever-changing digital world.

This position is part of the Chief Data Office (CDO) responsible for delivering data-informed, actionable insights that support Smithsonian’s digital transformation and the advancement of Smithsonian’s business and organizational goals using data and analytics. 

The incumbent serves as a Management and Program Analyst within ODI. Supports the delivery of data-informed, actionable insights to support leadership in achieving Institutional goals while also fostering a data- informed culture across SI. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates across the institution to consolidate and analyze data on Smithsonian operations, activities, and audiences.
  • Utilizes software applications (e.g., AWS, Tableau, Excel, PowerBI) to organize data, graphs, charts, and tables to communicate the underlying data information visually, highlight areas of concern, establish trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Develops data visualizations and reports to communicate context, findings, and recommendations to decision-makers.
  • Develops public-facing data visualizations to communicate SI’s reach and impact.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Skill using software programs (e.g., AWS, Tableau, Excel, PowerBI) to create and update complex databases and to prepare analytic materials.
  • Knowledge of a variety of qualitative and/or quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of program effectiveness and of management processes and systems. 
  • Comprehensive skill in project management, preparing and delivering reports, and making recommendations to management. 
  • Skill to plan, organize and direct team projects and to influence management to support and implement recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate verbally or written technical information and presentation for a variety of technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to highlight important concepts with the use of charts, tables, and illustrations.
