Library Specialist, Full time - Smoky Hill Library

Do you thrive in a fast-paced, people-focused environment? Arapahoe Libraries is looking for a Library Specialist at Smoky Hill Library who can deliver exceptional service, support a busy community hub, and switch easily between tasks throughout the day. In this role, you'll provide welcoming, inclusive service and keep the library running smoothly by assisting with everything from shelving and displays to technology help and account inquiries, helping the Smoky Hill community discover resources, learn new skills, and feel at home in the library.

Smoky Hill Library is nestled in a thriving suburban community and serves a wonderfully diverse population representing many cultures and languages. The branch is close to several local schools and is a favorite destination for youth and teens, as well as a welcoming place for residents from nearby assisted living centers. The surrounding area blends residential neighborhoods and local businesses, making the library a lively hub for people of all ages. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with patrons and taking part in a variety of library services each day.

Key Responsibilities

Patron Assistance

  • Greet and engage visitors with proactive, friendly support
  • Assist with account inquiries, payments, and general questions
  • Provide basic advisory and reference services across multiple collections
  • Promote and connect patrons with programs, events, and library resources
  • Assist patrons with care and professionalism to maintain a positive library experience for all

Technology Support

  • Help patrons use library computers, printers, copiers, and reservable spaces
  • Provide troubleshooting for devices, e-resources, and software such as Microsoft Office
  • Connect patrons with staff for more advanced technology questions

Materials Handling

  • Shelve, process, and maintain library materials and patron holds
  • Create and maintain displays that highlight collections
  • Utilize library systems to track and replenish materials

Learning and Collaboration

  • Stay current on new library offerings, technology, and trends
  • Actively engage in staff communications to stay informed
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive, team-focused environment

Qualifications

Required

  • One year of customer service, library, or education/teaching experience
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Basic skills in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), and willingness to learn new technologies
  • Enthusiasm for working with people of all ages and backgrounds

Preferred

Experience working with children and teens in a library, school, or public service setting

Schedule Requirements

The schedule for this position is:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 10:00AM - 7:00PM
  • Thursday: 12:00PM - 9:00PM (closing shift)
  • Friday: 8:00AM - 5:00PM
  • This role works an every third weekend rotation.

Schedules are provided in advance to support consistency, flexibility, and excellent service to the patrons of our community.
