About the Department

LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry, Department of Oral Surgery is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Health Information Coordinator 1 or 2.

These positions are in a Career Progression Group.

As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (
Health Information Coordinator 1, 2 or 3) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).

There is a starting rate of$18.38 for the HIC3, $16.06 for the HIC2 and $15.01 for theHIC1 per hour for this title.
Pay is dependent upon applicants’ qualifications. There is an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only.

Position Duties

Two years of experience in administrative services in a medical setting.

Other Qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to: 

-Will have knowledge of HIC1 andHIC2 duties.
-Receives and ensures that all referral paperwork submitted is processed.
-Enters all the patient data in WinOMS, Axium, and one drive.
-Advise patients on insurance specific guidelines and notify them of non-covered services.
-Collects payments from patient for services.
-Completes encounter slips for billing
-Secure all payment deposits
-Ensures the scheduling of all follow up visits
-Assists in reviewing accounts receivables and clearing out reports as needed
-Assists with obtaining medical clearance from outside medical doctors, track clearances assuring approval was received as needed.
-Communicates well with diverse population of patients, faculty, students, and staff
-Schedule patient appointment including new, established, and referral visits to oral pathologist, speech pathologist, imaging, and any other therapy appointments.
-Provide doctors with any documents received that requires signature, then fax response back and
scan documents. (Example of documents:FMLA, disability paperwork, speech therapy, cancer rehab, home health, etc.)
-Assists with scanning all documents in patients charts especially pathology reports, hospital booking, medical clearance as needed.
-Assists with preparation of ordering any supplies as needed
-Communicates and collaborates with Dental Program Coordinator regarding Implant patients and representatives for hardware, implants, and materials.
