Purpose
The Analyst/Associate, US FX Sales will play a critical role in managing and expanding the Bank’s unsecured Institutional & Sponsor FX derivatives portfolio and contribute to the overall success of FX in the United States ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. The Analyst/Associate will be primarily responsible for the credit execution of FX derivative transactions (primarily for private fund clients), as well as FX sales execution and contribute to the overall success of the team. The position requires an understanding of fund-level financing structures, strong analytical skills, an interest in capital markets sales and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. You will ensure all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
What You’ll Do
- Support the senior sales staff in the origination, structuring and execution of FX transactions
- Conduct thorough due diligence, financial analysis and risk assessment for the proposed transactions and present findings to our risk/credit partners
- Prepare deal related memos and coordinate credit applications throughout the lifecycle of the full transaction and/or client relationship
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
- Understand the risk profile of customer transactions and puts processes in place to manage those risks
- Protect the bank from loss and/or exposure to unnecessary risks through strict compliance with applicable acts, policies and regulations as applicable
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Code of Conduct.
- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
- Maximize cross selling opportunities across GBM business lines to deepen existing relationships and cultivate new ones
- Conduct industry and product research to support business needs
- Stay updated on market trends, regulatory changes and industry developments affecting the financial sponsor sector
- Assist in preparing client presentations, daily market commentary, and providing timely client support
- Perform various types of analysis using fundamental and technical data
- Monitor a variety of markets, economic releases, trends and factors that affect market movement
- Manage day-to-day responsibilities of the FX team, including but not limited to, trade booking, trade confirmation, CVA management, line sizing, and data management
- Assist in constructing strategies and marketing materials to promote development of senior level client relationships (e.g., Treasurer, CFO, and CEO)
- Provide assistance to sales, trading, and structuring staff on the trade floor in the execution of their day-to-day functions
- Develop and maintains internal client relationships with key support groups (Corporate Banking, Credit, Legal, etc.). Collaborates with all internal stakeholders to get relevant approvals required for new transactions or new structures being contemplated
- Contribute to a high-performance environment and fosters an inclusive work environment, supporting the vison/values/business strategy for the team
- Executes transactions on behalf of clients. Generates and maximizes trading profit and client revenues
- Ensure the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct & compliance, operation and conduct risks and AML/ATF/sanctions
What You’ll Bring
- Support the ongoing day to day operations of the US FX Sales team
- Maintain strict compliance under all applicable laws and regulations
- This role requires successful completion of the NFA Swaps Proficiency Requirement within 30 days of assuming the role and must be completed prior to engaging in in-scope activity
- Ensure the team remains compliant of all internal approvals (credit, market risk)
- Proficiency in Excel, Powerpoint and other Microsoft Office products required.
- Undergraduate degree required (preferably in a related discipline such as Finance, Economics, and Business).
- Strong product knowledge and understanding of financial markets.
