The General Operations Intern will gain hands-on experience across multiple departments including

agronomy, grain, feed, petroleum, accounting, and sales. Under the supervision of experienced

managers and specialists, the intern will learn how daily operations are managed and coordinated to

maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction. This internship provides a comprehensive overview of

agricultural business operations and is designed for students pursuing a career in agribusiness or

related fields.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:


Operations Coordination

  •  Assist the Operations Manager with workflow coordination across multiple locations.
  •  Participate in daily planning, logistics, and operational support.

Agronomy & Precision Ag

  •  Assist in developing work orders and making fertilizer and chemical recommendations.
  •  Participate in field scouting, soil sampling, and agronomic consulting.
  •  Gain exposure to precision agriculture tools and application methods.

Grain Elevator Operations

  •  Unload inbound grain trucks and load outbound semis.
  •  Operate scales and record grain weights.
  •  Sample and grade grain for quality.

Grain Accounting

  •  Work with the Grain Account Specialist to learn accounting processes.
  •  Assist with ticket verification, ledger sheets, grain purchases, and related procedures.

Sales Support

  •  Support Ag Sales and Seed Sales representatives with customer relationships.
  •  Assist producers with seed, chemical, and fertilizer planning.
  •  Prepare and arrange contracts.

Feed Department

  •  Work under the Feed Department Manager to learn operations.
  •  Assist with feed deliveries, product loading, inventory, and customer service.

Petroleum Department

  •  Shadow the Petroleum Department Manager on scheduling and daily operations.
  •  Assist with fuel deliveries and other departmental tasks.

Other duties may be assigned as needed.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This internship has no supervisory responsibilities.


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this internship successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following qualifications:


Education and/or Experience

  •  Currently pursuing a degree in Agribusiness, Agriculture, Business, Accounting, or related field.
  •  Previous agricultural or business-related experience is a plus but not required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  •  Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  •  Ability to obtain certifications (such as forklift or grain handling safety) if needed.

Skills and Abilities

  •  Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  •  Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  •  Organizational and problem-solving skills.
  •  Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
  •  Willingness to learn and adapt across diverse departments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this internship, the intern may be required to:

  •  Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  •  Use hands to handle tools, equipment, and samples.
  •  Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  •  Work in both indoor office settings and outdoor environments, including exposure to weather conditions.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The intern will experience a variety of work environments including office settings, grain elevators, feed

facilities, agricultural fields, and petroleum operations. Exposure to dust, noise, outdoor weather

conditions, and agricultural equipment is to be expected. Safety policies and procedures must be

followed at all times.
