Job Summary:

Under the direction of the operation’s leadership, the Event Services Attendant II is responsible for providing superior guest service at various event locations including The Pyramid and Blair Field. Tasks will be performed in a quick and efficient manner, such as greeting customers, collecting payment, preparing and assembling food and beverage orders. Safeguards company, customer, and campus assets. This role plays a key role in oversight of concessions operations, ensuring efficient service during peak periods. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees set-up and clean-up before and after events; including transporting product and catering orders to various on-campus and off-campus locations by use of company vehicles and carts
  • Coordinate setup and breakdown of concessions and catering for events, including transporting products using company vehicles and carts.
  • Ensure all event areas are clean, organized, and meet operational standards before, during, and after events.
  • Cross-train and work across various event types and service areas as needed.
  • Greet guests warmly, take orders, process payments, and provide accurate change.
  • Ensure a welcoming and friendly atmosphere to enhance the guest experience.
  • Collaborates with fellow servers, bartenders, and other staff members to provide seamless service
  • Address guest concerns promptly and escalate issues to the supervisor when necessary.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of menu items, including allergen and dietary information.
  • Prepare and serve food and beverages in accordance with safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain clean, stocked, and organized workstations throughout service.
  • Follows alcohol serving guidelines as described by the California alcohol beverage control and campus regulations where alcohol is served
  • Monitor concession inventory, sales, and reconcile cash handling with accurate reporting.
  • Coordinate product rotation and merchandising strategies to maximize sales and minimize waste.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all concession and event areas, including bussing tables, cleaning beverage stations, emptying trash, and operating dishwashing equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Support campus and company sustainability initiatives, including food waste management
  • Performs other duties as assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the job 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises and renders guidance to all staff within their department, under their immediate direction, including interns.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Beach Shops policies and procedures.

  • Under the direction of the manager, delegates tasks & deployment of student and professional staff while following standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Mentors and trains Concessions staff members on concessions procedures, including high-volume service, product knowledge, and customer service expectations.
  • Assists the manager in assigning and directing work of Concessions staff members

Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Must have basic knowledge of PC and Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations. 
  • California Food Handler Card OR the ability to obtain the CA Food Handler Card within the first 30 days of employment. 
  • Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) OR the ability to obtain the RBS within the first 30 days of employment
  • Essential duties and responsibilities include driving company vehicles. Employee must have a valid CA driver’s license, maintain a clean driving record and attend the Driver Safety training course.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English both written and oral form.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and must be customer service oriented.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all times, demonstrating cooperative behavior with a diverse population of staff, students, and co-workers.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions regarding safety procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

Background Check

A background check (including criminal records) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the Beach Shops at the CSU. The Beach Shops will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current employees who apply for this position.

Physical Demands:

The employee must frequently be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility throughout the entire shift. The employee must frequently be able to use manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination (for use of food service equipment). The employee must frequently be able to lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds and frequently use upper body strength required for mixing and carrying pots and pans. There will be long periods of time standing on their feet and moving around and the employee will be occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, bend at the waist, push or pull, reach above shoulder level, stoop, and kneel. The employee must comply with the University’s rules and regulations as well as the Beach Shops.

Work Environment:

The employee is regularly in a traditional dining services and kitchen environment that is frequently busy, has tight work-space, and extreme temperatures ranging from climate-controlled in the dining room, to humid/hot climate in the kitchen area. Cold temperatures are exposed in refrigeration area. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. The employee is regularly susceptible to oven, grill, knives, and other cutlery utensils. Work with chemicals used in cleaning and sanitizing equipment and all kitchen areas.


This position has a varied schedule and shifts. Typical shifts are evenings and weekends during various games and other events.
