ABOUT THE ROLE
An apprenticeship combines paid employment with structured training, designed to help you gain the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard, ultimately leading to a recognised qualification.
The role holder will join the Academic Registry’s professional support team at Northumbria University, contributing to a wide range of administrative and organisational responsibilities in line with University policies and procedures. The specific duties will vary depending on the team and the academic calendar, but may include:
- Managing assessment processes
- Providing guidance on academic regulations
- Supporting examination boards
- Coordinating programme handbooks
- Assisting with quality reviews, committees, and University events
A central aspect of the role involves developing a strong understanding of University and PSRB (Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body) programme regulations. Building effective working relationships with academic staff and institutional partners is also key to success in this position.

Under the apprentice scheme, a minimum of six hours per week will be invested in training towards the achievement of your qualification. In addition to the support offered through the training provider, a workplace mentor will provide practical advice and guidance throughout the duration of your apprenticeship.
The duration of the apprenticeship will be 18 months.
Join the dynamic and collaborative Academic Registry team that is part of the wider Student, Library and Academic Services Team. Roles and responsibilities within the team include faculty academic support, apprenticeship academic support, quality support and preparation for inspections and audits.
To be successful in the role you will have:
- A willingness to learn how to organise and manage tasks, with support from your team and manager.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Experience of working with IT packages, including Microsoft Office, Outlook for diary management, and web-based tools such as SharePoint.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team, contributing to a positive and collegial environment.
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail in your work.
- A Level 2 qualification or higher (e.g. 5 GCSEs A–C or equivalent) and relevant experience.
