Job Title: Medical Assistant Specialist
Department: Learning & Development
Reports to: Victoria Kamphaus
Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant Specialist is responsible for delivering comprehensive orientation training to new medical assistants and providing targeted remedial training and support for existing staff. This position requires traveling between multiple care centers to ensure consistent clinical and administrative competencies across locations.
Schedule:
This role requires full-time travel throughout Maryland and Washington, DC, with occasional travel to Virginia.
- 1st & 3rd weeks of each month: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- 2nd & 4th weeks of each month: Three 12-hour shifts, Monday–Friday (8:00 AM – 8:00 PM)
- Open availability every other Saturday as needed
Flexibility is essential, as travel is required 100% of the time. Schedule is subject to future changes.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Serves as a mentor and resource for new hires, offering guidance and support throughout their training period and beyond.
- Oversees the orientation training program for medical assistants.
- Approves medical assistant competency assessments to ensure clinical readiness.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conducts orientation training sessions for new medical assistants, covering clinical procedures, administrative tasks, and compliance with clinic protocols.
- Provides remediation training to address performance gaps identified during onboarding and ongoing evaluations.
- Collaborates with Learning & Development team members to create and update training materials.
- Supports medical assistants on the clinic floor by demonstrating best practices, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring smooth operations.
- Performs competency assessments and monitors 30-60-90 day progress, maintaining detailed and accurate records.
- Stays updated on company workflows, SOPs, and policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Direct experience with the following tasks:
- Clinical intake, patient data collection
- Laboratory specimen collection (blood-draw/venipuncture, urine collection, point of care testing, etc.)
- Performing EKG testing
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of medical assistant training program with certification.
- 2+ years of medical assistant experience in a primary care, urgent care or emergency room setting.
- 1+ year experience as a trainer/mentor in a Primary Care/ Immediate/Urgent Care setting.
- Knowledge of computerized information systems (EMR) used in clinical management settings.
Qualifications:
- Must meet all other state requirements by law, including but not limited to all state requirements, and licenses, where applicable.
- If required by state must maintain current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or any other recognized certifying body approved by the Board.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations including OSHA and HIPAA requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Flexibility to work various schedules, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate training schedules.
- Travel. The role will require 100% travel between locations of assigned region or market.
- This position primarily operates in a clinical environment, involving regular interaction with patients and healthcare staff.
