How You’ll Contribute:

As a Tax Manager, you will play a critical role on our Tax team, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of federal, state, and premium tax filings across all EquiTrust Life entities. You will contribute to tax provisioning, compliance, and strategic planning, including tax provision estimates and deferred tax asset/liability inventories. This role partners closely with actuarial, finance, and reporting teams to align tax strategies with business objectives, while also advising on the tax implications of operational decisions. We’re looking for candidates who are collaborative, detail-oriented, and passionate about driving process improvements in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Prepare and review annual income tax returns and premium-related filings, ensuring compliance with regulations.

  • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly income and premium tax provisions, aligned with NAIC and US GAAP standards.

  • Monitor federal and state tax legislation, as well as software/vendor solutions, to support compliance and decision-making.

  • Coordinate audits and examinations with external auditors, insurance departments, and tax authorities.

  • Partner with actuarial, financial reporting, and FP&A teams on five-year tax projections to support strategic goals.

  • Maintain the tax compliance calendar to ensure all filing deadlines are met.

  • Recommend and implement process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency.

  • Support colleagues across the company with timely tax guidance and collaboration.

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented work culture.

What You’ll Bring:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

  • Master’s degree in Tax preferred.

  • CPA required.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of tax reporting experience with progressive responsibility.

  • 5+ years of experience in life and/or annuity insurance.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.

  • Experience with Power BI or other automation tools preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with problem-solving aptitude.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.

  • Excellent organization and time management, balancing multiple deadlines.

  • Attention to detail with the ability to anticipate and resolve issues independently.

  • Ability to work effectively across departments and integrate tax strategies with business objectives.

  • Commitment to protecting customer privacy and company intellectual property.

  • Dedication to fostering a collaborative and inclusive workplace where all perspectives are valued.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Regular use of computer, including sitting, typing, and reviewing documents.

    • Ability to communicate clearly (verbal and written).

    • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.

    Compensation and Pay Philosophy: 
    The pay range for this role is $114,837.00-$157,901.00. This reflects the expected compensation for the position at the time of posting. The final offer will be based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, qualifications, geographic location, and internal equity, and may be higher or lower than the posted range. The pay range is subject to change in the future in accordance with applicable laws. EquiTrust is committed to fair and competitive compensation that considers individual and organizational needs.
