Location: 4822 N Broadway, 2nd Floor, Chicago, IL 60640

Schedule: Hybrid, Monday to Friday (8:30am-5:00pm)

Heartland Human Care Services is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to take on a leadership role in financial planning, reporting, and analysis. In this position, you’ll maintain the general ledger, manage month-end close, and develop financial models that inform strategic decisions. You’ll also prepare projections, conduct research, and deliver analysis that guides leadership at the highest level.

Beyond the numbers, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor, partnering with program teams to provide financial guidance, improve processes, and strengthen outcomes. Essential Functions:

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • In collaboration with program leadership, develops budget proposals and budget modifications.
  • Ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, funder-specific requirements and relevant financial and legal regulations for company teams and providing training and capacity building to support knowledge transfer to program and operational staff.
  • Oversees accounting tasks related to daily, month-end, and year-end close. 
  • Oversees grant management for a portfolio of awards.  Includes budget preparation, cost projections, report preparation, and spending analysis.  Ensuring compliance with AP/AR, billing and reporting requirements.
  • Work with program leaders to develop fiscal year budgets for consolidation into the organizational budget.
  • Ensures high-quality reporting for leadership and board audiences in collaboration with -Senior the Director of Finance.
  • Develops and maintain relationships with funders.
  • Researches and develops a strong knowledge of government funding sources.
  • Provides guidance and supports to Financial Analysts and Staff Accountant on financial processes and reporting.
  • Recommends and helps implement enhancements to financial systems, workflows, and reporting capabilities.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institute of higher learning in Accounting or Finance. Masters in Finance or MBA  is preferred.
  • CPA a plus
  • 7+ years of experience in accounting or finance. Non-profit accounting experience is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (K/S/A):

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Highly proficient experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills. Strong networker, convener, relationship builder and communicator with experience collaborating with diverse work teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information possessing skills to handle situations in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • A high degree of collaboration and emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by Heartland Human Care Services.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated with minimal direct supervision.
  • Strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills.

Work Arrangement: 

This role is eligible for a “hybrid” work arrangement. It is expected this person would be able to meet for “in person” meetings when needed or at the request of others. 

 

Work Environment: 

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Each program site operates on a 24/7 basis, 365 days per year. To meet both the needs of our participants and contractual obligations, employees are required to be flexible in regard to scheduling and work location.  
  • Program sites are located throughout the Chicago area, including the North and South sides of Chicago, as well as the suburbs.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

  • The employee must be able to stoop, kneel, and/or crawl.
  • The employee is regularly required to use hands to key, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
