The Lead, Safety Specialist, provides leadership and oversight for safety programs, regulatory compliance, and culture development within offshore operations. This role directs day-to-day safety activities, leads audits and incident investigations, and ensures continuous improvement in safety performance. This position is based in federal waters offshore California on Amplify's offshore platforms.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all Federal and Industry Safety Regulations governing Production, Drilling, and Workover Work on Offshore Platforms.
- Conduct facility and OSHA-type audits; oversee corrective action follow-up.
- Facilitate JSAs, PTW, LOTO, confined space, and contractor safety compliance.
- Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and verify completion.
- Manage safety data, reporting, and regulatory recordkeeping related to health and safety.
- Serve as lead point of contact during inspections, safety reviews, and emergency response.
- Mentor, coach, and provide hands-on training to crews and team members.
- Proactively engage with crews to improve safety culture and provide hands-on training.
- Monitor safety statistics & trends (incidents, near misses, hazards, and behavior-based observations).
- Track Contractor Hours and Persons on Board (PoB).
- Ensure contractors have approved Safety Management Plans and Incident Management Plans, including bridging agreements to comply with Beta/Amplify requirements.
- Maintain working knowledge of the Beta Offshore Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) to support regulatory safety requirements.
- Ensure timely reporting of all injuries and incidents, including HR notification for accidents, injuries, and near misses.
- Work with Compliance to manage audit action items and provide required data to regulatory agencies.
- Audit safety recordkeeping for training, inspections, contractor certifications, and drills.
- Review and recommend improvements to safety inspection criteria.
- Assist with incident investigations and recommend policy or operational changes.
- Assess overall safety program for compliance gaps and recommend improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
- 4–6+ years HSE/safety experience in oil & gas, with offshore operations experience.
- 2+ years supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Knowledge of safety management systems, OSHA standards, and API offshore safety requirements.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management systems.
- Professional certifications (CSP, CHSO, OHST, ASP, etc.) strongly preferred.
- Must be able to work offshore 14/14 rotation, including weekends and holidays.
