Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Mine Engineer to join our growing team as the company transitions from mine construction to mine operations.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the Mine Engineer is responsible for a full range of engineering functions including but not limited to short-range mine planning, pit design, equipment analysis, and production reporting. The Mine Engineer will have direct involvement and communication with staff from other departments. This role supports the department's vision to optimize productivity and maintain the profitability of development and operation, while promoting and respecting Health, Safety, and the environment.
This position is located at the Project site, working on a 14 day in/14 day out rotation.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety, and Environment through personal behaviors and conversations.
- Provide short-term mine plans, production schedules, and communicate to stakeholders.
- Reconcile the short-term plans and identify areas for improvement.
- Identify risks (equipment reliability, resources, grade, etc.) and opportunities that may impact the mine plans.
- Use pit and phase designs to generate short-range mine plans that accurately predict mining progress by period.
- Design intermediate pit phases based on geological block model and other constraints such as mining limitations, slope design criteria, and facility location.
- Design waste dumps, stockpiles, access roads, ramps, and other mine site facilities.
- Confirm that pit designs are properly implemented in the field through collaboration with Mine operations.
- Maintain accurate records and files including Key Performance Indicators for Mining.
- Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
- Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct them.
- Monitor departmental needs to ensure alignment with departmental and company objectives.
- Collaborate with the technical services team in analyzing various mine plan scenarios to identify, assess and capture opportunities.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper coordination in terms of reporting, planning, forecasting, stockpile management, month-end reporting, and other shared activities.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mining or Civil Engineering is required.
- Minimum of 1 years of experience in mine engineering, including mine planning, or related discipline preferred.
- Experience in a remote work site is required.
- Experience in Mine Planning Software (i.e Vulcan).
Skills and Knowledge:
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites.
- Knowledge of the OHS, mining, and construction regulations.
- Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to pit design, mine planning and equipment analysis required.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Attention to detail in all aspects of responsibilities.
- Flexibility and ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently while supporting team members.
- Focused attitude.
- Highly skilled in computer applications such as Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- A valid driver’s license and drivers abstract required.
