Job Purpose:

Perform legal secretary duties for workers' compensation defense, including civil calendaring and filing for subrogation cases.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file court documents for workers' compensation and subrogation cases.
  • Knowledge of civil calendaring procedures required for subrogation matters.
  • Manage calendars and deadlines for hearings, depositions, and court proceedings.
  • Proofread materials for grammar, spelling, and formatting.
  • Draft correspondence and legal documents related to workers' compensation cases.
  • Organize and maintain files in the case management system.
  • Prepare case management statements, settlement documents, and trial exhibits.
  • Document and bill for all billable work in compliance with firm procedures

Requirements

  • Prior workers' compensation defense experience required.
  • Civil calendaring and filing experience required.
  • Familiarity with Superior Court rules and websites.
  • Familiarity with the California Code of Civil Procedure as it relates to civil litigation deadlines.
  • Familiarity with vendors used for discovery, service of process, and court filings; State Court filing and/or e-filing procedures.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Word required
  • Strong writing, proofreading, spelling, and grammar skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, clients, and employees; maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact; work independently in the absence of specific instruction.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position requires critical thinking skills, and the ability to problem-solve. In addition, this role must work collaboratively with attorneys and staff at all levels to achieve goals.
