Job Purpose:
Perform legal secretary duties for workers' compensation defense, including civil calendaring and filing for subrogation cases.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file court documents for workers' compensation and subrogation cases.
- Knowledge of civil calendaring procedures required for subrogation matters.
- Manage calendars and deadlines for hearings, depositions, and court proceedings.
- Proofread materials for grammar, spelling, and formatting.
- Draft correspondence and legal documents related to workers' compensation cases.
- Organize and maintain files in the case management system.
- Prepare case management statements, settlement documents, and trial exhibits.
- Document and bill for all billable work in compliance with firm procedures

Requirements
- Prior workers' compensation defense experience required.
- Civil calendaring and filing experience required.
- Familiarity with Superior Court rules and websites.
- Familiarity with the California Code of Civil Procedure as it relates to civil litigation deadlines.
- Familiarity with vendors used for discovery, service of process, and court filings; State Court filing and/or e-filing procedures.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Word required
- Strong writing, proofreading, spelling, and grammar skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with the public, clients, and employees; maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact; work independently in the absence of specific instruction.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position requires critical thinking skills, and the ability to problem-solve. In addition, this role must work collaboratively with attorneys and staff at all levels to achieve goals.
