About the Department

The Director of Donor Engagement and Development shall be responsible for the processes, methodologies, and execution of strategies to engage new and at-risk donors in a manner that contributes to the annual advancement goals.  The Director of Donor Engagement and Development is responsible for developing new donors into regular ongoing donors, and for engaging lapsed donors with the goal of returning them to current donor status.  The Director of Donor Engagement and Development shall assume responsibility for the coordination of activities for all private scholarship donors in a manner that supports their donor relationship managers, and facilitates the onboarding, retention, and development of private scholarship donors.  The Director of Donor Engagement and Development shall assist in the collection of donor data and feedback and shall develop reports from such data to inform the advancement office regarding the development of future donor messaging and engagement.  The Director of Donor Engagement and Development shall be assigned a permanent portfolio of donors to steward in such a manner that contributes to effective stewardship and further development of such donors. Director of Donor Engagement and Development shall also work as a frontline fundraiser seeking gifts of $5,000 and more to benefit all areas of the University. This role must report all donor stewardship and moves management into FPU’s CRM and ensure the policies and procedures of Advancement Services are followed. 

Position Duties

  • Develop, continuously improve and manage a documented, repeatable, and measurable process for all new donors, with the goal of moving them from first-time donors to their second gift to repeat donors.
  • In conjunction with the VP of Advancement and the Director of Student Financial Services and in consultation with donors, develop new private scholarship agreements with new private scholarship donors.
  • Manage the private scholarship donor experience for all private scholarship donors in a manner that encourages further scholarship donations and accomplishes department goals.
  • Develop and manage a documented, repeatable, and measurable process for all lapsed donors, with the goal of returning them to current donor status.
  • As directed, and in consultation with others, develop and conduct occasional donor surveys to gather, compile, and report information which may inform the advancement team regarding future effective messaging, events, and management of donor relationships.
  • Manage a portfolio of donors in a manner that promotes the facilitation of additional and ongoing gifts.
  • Serve as the hospitality coordinator for the Advancement office; greet guests and facilitate their visit to provide a positive and memorable experience as they accomplish their goals.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of advancement events as required.
  • Assist with the planning, messaging, and delivery of advancement campaigns as required.
  • Model accepted standards and ethics of professional fundraising and standardized project management.
  • Capacity to manage simultaneous projects to meet firm deadlines.
  • Meet with new donors regularly to move them through donor pipeline.
  • Move current donors to the next level of giving.
  • Actively partner with Planning Giving to secure blended gifts.
  • Significantly contribute to university advancements yearly goals.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of activities and outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Commitment to the Christian mission of the university.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong communication skills; ability to write in a clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive manner; ability to orally share instructions, ideas, and concepts in a clear, articulate and motivating manner.
  • Strong editing skills
  • Strong research skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Organizational and time management skills to coordinate projects and people, prioritize and track multiple projects simultaneously, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Experience with computer hardware and software for word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, web editing and presentation tasks/assignments.  Working skills in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook and computer skills in graphic imaging techniques.


Preferred:

  • Advanced degree and/or CFRE
  • Knowledge of and experience with higher education donor development
  • Experience in a multi-site, multi-program university


Environmental Conditions:

  • Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
  • Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
  • Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming. 


Physical Demands:

  • This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry. 
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.

Other Qualifications

$75,000-$90,000 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Fresno Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position.  Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.  In addition to compensation, FPU offers a competitive benefits package.
