Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a highly experienced Project Manager/Clinical Planner to join our global Healthcare team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with a talented group of healthcare architects, medical planners, technologists, and interior designers.
As a key contributor in the planning and development of healthcare environments, you will manage projects and lead efforts in programming, space planning, functional planning, and operational workflows, while ensuring projects align with clinical needs, evidence-based design principles, and evolving healthcare regulations. You will engage directly with the clients’ project managers, healthcare providers, user groups, consultants, and stakeholders to deliver innovative, patient-centered, and efficient design solutions across all project phases from concept development to construction documentation. The ideal candidate has +10 years experience leading healthcare projects in the Canadian market and is highly informed in current best practices and industry trends. The desire and ability to represent Arcadis at industry events and speak at healthcare conferences is a definite benefit.
Role accountabilities:
- Managing teams to complete healthcare projects being delivered through various procurement methods including traditional, DBB, CM as well as P3 and Design-Build including roles as compliance role advisors.
- Lead medical planning efforts on acute care and long-term care healthcare projects, from pre-design through construction.
- Collaborate with clients, user groups, and internal teams to develop functional programs, space plans, and operational models.
- Conduct planning workshops, lead stakeholder engagement sessions, and facilitate clinical input during design to translate clinical and operational requirements into efficient, compliant, and future-focused planning solutions, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards (e.g., CSA, FGI), infection control practices, and accessibility codes.
- Support the development of project documentation including functional programs, design briefs, feasibility studies, and business cases.
- Coordinate with project architects, and consultants to ensure seamless integration of clinical requirements in design.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior planners and design staff.
- Contribute to project scheduling, resource planning, and budget management.
- Represent Arcadis at industry conferences, seminars, and professional events - participating in panels, networking with peers, and staying current on emerging trends in healthcare design and planning.
- Support business development efforts, including identifying new project opportunities, developing client relationships, contributing to proposals, and presenting planning expertise during project pursuits and interviews.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in a healthcare discipline, healthcare planning, project management, health administration, operational management, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in healthcare environments, including at least 3 years in a leadership or planning role.
- Experience in healthcare facility design, operational planning, and functional programming for new and renovated health facilities.
- In-depth understanding of clinical workflows, healthcare delivery models, and patient/staff needs in various healthcare settings.
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, consensus-building, and facilitation of clinical and administrative user groups.
- Skilled in managing project scope, risks, timelines, and change in a deadline-driven context.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex clinical information into clear planning strategies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe Acrobat Pro is required.
- Experience or certification in quality improvement, Lean, change management, business case development, and budgeting is an asset.
- Knowledge of CAD, Revit, and planning/diagramming software is an asset.
