With a proud legacy spanning nearly 50 years, The Center on Colfax has grown to become the largest LGBTQ+ community center in the Rocky Mountain region. The Center is a collaborative leader that positively impacts the lived experience of LGBTQ+ people in Denver and Colorado by creating inclusive programs and events, fostering connections, and leveraging the individual and collective strengths of the community. Additionally, The Center produces Denver Pride, the Denver Pride Parade, and the Pride 5K, which make up the largest Pride celebration in the Rocky Mountain Region. As the third oldest LGBTQ+ community center in the U.S.—and the largest within 600 miles—we are proud of our history of driving meaningful change and building community.


Position Description

The Center has 2 open positions for Communications Intern. As a Communications Intern at The Center, you play an impactful, hands-on role in interacting with the LGBTQ+ community across Colorado and beyond. Through day-to-day communications with a strong focus on digital content creation and community engagement, this position helps to connect individuals with essential resources and uplifts the community through feel-good and inspirational stories.  This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about LGBTQ+ visibility and storytelling. Our ideal candidates will uphold The Center’s values and bring their out-of-the-box thinking and creative executions to the Communications team. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in daily content creation and scheduling across social media platforms, with a focus on Instagram and Facebook 
  • Edits existing video content into short-form, ready-to-use formats for social media and future campaigns 
  • Monitors and responds to DMs and comments on social media with professionalism and care 
  • Tracks and summarizes social media engagement trends and helps identify areas for growth 
  • Helps write, format, and send The Center’s weekly e-newsletter 
  • Brainstorms and tests content formats (e.g. Reels, Stories, carousels) aligned with community trends and Center programming 
  • Identifies opportunities for digital storytelling (e.g. Instagram Stories) from daily office life, community events, and staff culture 
  • Captures and edits photography of events and programs  
  • Approves or denies submitted events on The Center’s community calendar, ensuring alignment with organizational values 
  • Regularly audits The Center’s website to identify and resolve broken links 
  • Contributes to brainstorming sessions, including ideation for Denver Pride 2026  
  • Supports the alignment of digital engagement to achieving The Center’s long-term goals. 
  • Upholds and follows brand guidelines in all content and communication 
  • Participates in a team-oriented, respectful, and mission-driven work environment 
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of and experience with social media platforms, particularly Instagram 
  • Basic photography and photo editing skills  
  • Basic graphic design skills 
  • Experience in writing and editing for social media and other digital communications, with the ability to both expand or contract a message to meet each medium’s needs
  • Video editing skills (Reels/Stories format experience ideal) 
  • Commitment to the values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Passion for The Center’s mission 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member 
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Willingness to learn and contribute ideas with humility and openness 
  • Bilingual Spanish, preferred
  • Passing a criminal history background check

Working Conditions 

  • Working in an office environment 20 hours per week on average, through the end of the year, subject to availability
  • Occasional lifting up to 35 pounds, with reasonable accommodation 
  • Frequent giving, receiving, and analyzing of information 
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
