Basic Function

Provides planning and support to Facilities Maintenance Management.  Primary responsibility is performing basic and routine facilities maintenance and repairs of the buildings and ground systems.    Under general supervision, provides support for the maintenance related needs that may occur. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Provides general and detailed maintenance (either with direct or indirect supervision), includes patching, painting, hardware repairs and other repair/replacement work as required.
  • Ensures ground systems are functioning properly and efficiently.
  • Assists with general office work related to the work request system and the ordering of supplies and materials.
  • Performs routine daily inspections of assigned buildings and spaces.
  • Assists, or performs independently when needed, general and detailed cleaning of buildings, interior and exterior spaces.
  • Specific functions include, but are not limited to mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, wiping, washing, polishing and dusting floors, carpet, walls, windows, and doors; trash and recycling removal; cleaning restrooms; stairwells, offices and other areas as required.
  • Follows the Facilities Maintenance Work Request System and provides updates to work in process.
  • Completes all documentation for work performed, in a timely manner.
  • Oversees and performs the duties associated with events, including executing the set-up plan in a timely manner, breakdowns are completed on schedule with spaces returned to normal state.
  • Oversees the contractors that work onsite and help them complete their work as needed. 
  • Identifies maintenance risks and addresses potential issues.
  • Performs emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
  • Assists with queries and provides technical advice. 
  • Prepares records and reports detailing work performed.
  • Performs regular preventive maintenance tasks to ensure system longevity.
  • Responds to emergency call ins (on scheduled days) during storms or natural disasters that require grounds to be cleared of debris, snow or ice.
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
    Pay Range: $54,300 - $71,200

Education Requirement

High School Diploma or GED is required. 

Years & Experience Required

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in construction and or building maintenance experience. Experience to include maintaining interior and exterior structures. Experience with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing equipment (preferred but not required).

Knowledge & Skills Required

A Valid Texas driver’s license is required for the job and must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle requirements.  Knowledge of maintenance terminology and PC skills to include Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Access or similar database software.  Good communications (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills.  Ability to use basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and custodial hand and electric powered tools.  Reads, comprehends, and ability to work from plans and operating instructions.  Follow oral and written instructions; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population.  Demonstrated time management skills and including multi-¬tasking.  Ability to meet deadlines.  Keep computerized records and prepare reports.  Access and employ job related computer software (email, work planning, timekeeping) at an effective proficiency level.  Ability to work independently with limited supervision.  Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
