About the Department

The Wellness Specialist is responsible for actively coordinating wellness programs to the employee population to maximize participation and, ultimately, improve quality of life and health outcomes for employees. Major duties include the following:

  • Proactively manage and partner with Wellness Consultant for day-to-day administration of all benefit plans/programs
  • Assist with coordination of wellness days, including health fairs, biometric screenings, and lunch & learn seminars, etc.
  • Develop effective employee communications to improve understanding of benefit plans
  • Manage communications for CityNet, Monthly Calendar, PowerPoints, etc.
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate internal wellness data, records and reports
  • Interface with select vendors for wellness events and administration
  • Implement new initiatives to focus on employee health and ensure integration of the wellness program with our strategic plan
  • In coordination with Wellness Consultant, supports the execution of internal management of rewarded leave tracking
  • Create related communications, training and program implementation plans as a means to attract, retain, reward and motivate City employees
  • Ensure compliance with all HIPPA and legal requirements associated with various employee benefits programs and personal employee data protection
  • Conduct gym orientations and Healthy Rewards 101 as scheduled in benefits calendar
Work Schedule: 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Schedules may vary due to work site and operational needs.

  • Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
  • Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.  
  • Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office:  Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must have at least 1 year of administrative experience, preferably in a health and wellness setting
  • Must have at least 1 year of administrative experience, preferably in a health and wellness setting.
    Currently enrolled in an Associate’s program in Health Promotion, Public Health, Human Services, Exercise Science, Nutrition, and Psychology, with demonstrated progress toward completion
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in Health Promotion / Wellness
  • Bachelor’s in Public Health
  • Bachelor’s in Community Health Education
  • Bachelor’s in Exercise Science / Kinesiology
  • Bachelor’s in Nutrition / Dietetics
  • Certified Wellness Trainer or Personal Training Credentials
