- Communicate with school site Department Chairs and Academy Coordinators regarding implementation of AVID-based Districtwide Learning Strategies:
- a) use of planners for organization (CCI I.1.12); b) text annotation (CCI I.1.14); c) text-dependent questioning (CCI I.1.4); d) focused-note taking (CCI I.1.3), and; e) collaborative study groups (CCI I.1.9)
- Share AVID Weekly resources and implementation ideas schoolwide
- Research and share ways for students to incorporate multiple forms of media in their learning (CCCI I.1.6 & CCI I.1.7)
- Work with AVID colleagues to provide professional learning on writing (CCCI I.1.1 & CCI I.1.2) and critical reading (Essential 6.5)
- Assist in coordinating grade level college testing (CCI I.1.14)
- Maintain team focus on evaluation of key data (CCI II.3.35, CCI II.3.36, & CCI II.3.37)
- Ensure that monthly Site Team Meetings include analysis of data that reflects advocacy for the AVID program, rigor for AVID students, and instructional decision-making (CCI II.3.35, CCI II.3.36, & CCI II.3.37)
- Provide data to be shared at school site Leadership Meetings and School Site Council, as well as for WASC (CCI II.3.35, CCI II.3.36, & CCI II.3.37)
- Ensure that the AVID Site Team Plan is a living document revisited at each Site Team Meeting (CCI II.1.6)
- Lead the Site Team in monitoring and tracking student performance in the following target areas: C or better in A-G coursework (CCI II.3.26) pursuing 4-year university (CCI II.3.30), enrolled in Honors/AP/IB courses (CCI II.3.27 & CCI II.3.28)
- Analyze CAASPP and college entry exam results [PSAT, SAT, PLAN, EAP] (CCI II.3.37)
- Run student achievement inquiries by course and grade level in Illuminate
- Ensure all AVID Center data collection forms are completed annually (CCI.II.3.35)
- Oversee collection of senior data and ensure they are applying to and attending 4-year universities (CCI II.3.33 & CCI II.3.34)
- Maintain Site Team and schoolwide focus on metrics associated with having earned AVID Schoolwide Site of Distinction
- Develop and disseminate AVID PR and recruitment materials to the local school community and all feeder schools (CCI II.1.3)
- Coordinate 2 AVID-sponsored community events annually
- Plan and implement AVID fundraising events
- Coordinate AVID college field trips and help plan additional field trips for cultural awareness (CCI IV.2.4)
- Work with Counselors to support AVID students in the college application process (CCI II.3.33)
- Work with the school site College & Career Guidance Specialist and college access programs [Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, CARS, etc.] (Essential 3.2)
- Recruit business and community partners with resources and interest in providing student workplace experience
- Help Site Team Members and AVID Elective Teachers coordinate field trips, guest speakers, internships, mentor lunches, etc.
- Oversee AVID Club (CCI IV.2.3)
- Develop relationships with and work as liaison between the school site’s AVID program and the community and families
- Provide AVID students with community service opportunities (CCI IV.2.3)
- Organize at least 4 family workshops per semester, offering opportunities both during the school day and in the evening (examples: Engaging Families Through Email & PowerSchool, Introducing Parents to Clubs & Community Service, Welcome to A-G, Engaging in the College Process, Transcript Reflection Workshop, Grad Check Reflection Workshop, Financial Aid Workshop)
- Organize at least 2 family events annually (examples: AVID Fall Family Night, AVID Spring College Fair, AVID Video Showcase Night)
- Develop and facilitate an AVID Parent Committee
- Present AVID program to feeder schools parents, and incoming 9th graders (CCI II.1.3)
- Coordinate annual AVID Tutor Training (CCI II.1.11)
- Coordinate the training of AVID Elective Teachers using the AVID Tutorial Guide (CCI II.1.14)
- Communicate with the site administrator overseeing the tutor program regarding recruitment and retention of AVID Tutors (CCI II.1.9)
- Meet with site AVID Tutors twice a month to discuss student progress in the use of tutorials and address areas of concern
- Observe AVID Tutors on a quarterly basis and provide formative feedback for their professional growth; feedback should focus on Tutors’ efforts to challenge students to higher levels of thinking (CCI I.1.4) and raise their level of inquiry, and to increase their level of critical thinking
