Summary of Position:
The Sailing Instructor is the Club’s primary instructor and planner for all lessons, events, and camps. This position is responsible for ensuring that all Members and guests have a pleasant and hospitable experience while learning how to navigate the high seas and operate their own sailing vessel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Share knowledge and experience of sailing skills and safety.
- Plan sailing lessons and oversee all sailing courses within the Club.
- Prepare and plan for all Club Marina events including regattas, parties, and cruises.
- Develop methods to increase Club interest in all things sailing.
- Perform repairs and order parts for Club-owned vessels as needed.
- Maintain an inventory of all Club-owned vessels.
- Utilize VHF radios and use proper marine radio etiquette.
- Assist the Marina Manager and Dockhands with daily Marina operations.
- Inspect the Marina and all moored vessels and report any unsafe conditions.
- Assist Members in all Marina-related affairs.
Qualifications:
- Be able to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
- Have at least 5 years of experience sailing and at least 3 years of experience in sailing education.
- Certified US Sailing Level 1 Instructor.
- CPR / First Aid certified.
- General knowledge of sailboat, powerboat, kayak, and paddleboard care and maintenance.
- Knowledge and application of tying a clove hitch, bowline, and clean hitch.
- Have a working knowledge of marine services and customer service fundamentals.
- Have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office products Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Be able to work outside for up to 8 hours per day.
- Be able to reach, bend, stoop, twist, pull, push, crawl, climb, and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must have the stamina to work up to 40 or more hours per week.
