About the job

Tinybird: We create tools that developers love, empowering them to transform data of any scale into real-time insights, actionable outcomes, and tangible business value. Tinybird is the go-to data platform for user-facing analytics. Ingest both batch and streaming data, query with SQL, and publish as APIs to build fast data products—quicker than ever.

As a small startup, every new member of our flock plays a crucial role in advancing our mission and vision, helping us soar to new heights together.

What Are We Looking For?

We’re seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join our team who:

  • Builds Complex Web Applications: You have a strong background in developing sophisticated web applications. While we currently use Python and C++, we’re open to any language.
  • Writes High-Performance Code: You excel in creating fast, user-friendly applications that handle high volumes of traffic, and you can quickly engineer prototypes. Speed is key!
  • Contributes to Engineering Excellence: From planning and organization to execution and delivery, you’ll tackle complex engineering challenges.
  • Loves Data and SQL: Your passion for data is essential.

Additional Qualities We Value:

  • Fluency in English: Proficiency in Spanish, Russian, or Mandarin is a fantastic bonus!
  • Strong Written Communication: Clear written communication is vital for our asynchronous work culture, including documentation, guides, and occasional blog posts.
  • On-Call Participation: You’ll be part of the on-call team, gaining insights into our product and the challenges our clients face.
  • Location: You should be based in Spain.

At our company, every team member is part of the product team. While your primary focus will be Backend development, your priorities will align with our product goals.

Your week might involve:

  • Working on Backend priorities such as enhancing observability, integrating new connectors, fixing identified issues, or developing new user-facing analytics features.
  • Collaborating with the Fast Responders team to address customer-reported issues, improve recently released features, or reduce technical debt.

We engage in daily discussions about our product, balancing immediate challenges with long-term goals. Your insights into both the product and its technical intricacies will be invaluable.

Our product design process is collaborative: you’ll propose solutions to problems, explain their importance, outline how they would work, and draft (but not publish) an announcement blog post for team feedback. Typically, we create a Minimum Shitty Prototype (MSP) to gauge feasibility and effort.

Our Work Culture

  • Fully Remote: We embrace a remote-first approach, with our headquarters in Madrid. We enjoy regular face-to-face interactions, especially on Wednesdays!
  • Home Office Setup: We provide up to €2400 to help you create an optimal home office.
  • Impactful Work: As a startup, your contributions will significantly influence our trajectory. We value transparency, ensuring you’re always informed about what’s happening.

The Application Process

We strive to keep our hiring process straightforward, typically completing it within two weeks:

  • Initial Meeting: Meet with two Tinybird backend engineers.
  • Assessment: Complete a simple asynchronous test (we suggest no more than 4 hours).
  • Deep Dive: Discuss your test results in a second meeting with the review team.
  • Final Meeting: Connect with the founders and/or other team members.
  • Offer: If all goes well, we’ll extend an offer.

Compensation

We offer a competitive package, including stock options, with a salary of up to €81K based on experience. Enjoy 22 vacation days a year (plus your birthday and public holidays)!
