About the job

Underwriting Portfolio Analyst, you will be responsible for identifying trends and providing insight to internal stakeholders and distribution partners. By using your analytical skills to assess opportunities within our portfolio, you will contribute to profitable growth within Wakam.


In this role, you will work with and build strong partnerships with our Underwriting teams and across multiple business functions.


You will have experience using tools such as SQL, Python , PowerBI and Excel to report, monitor and analyse data and trends, quantifying insights and identify opportunities.


You will communicate business results to various audiences, enabling our Underwriters and Business leaders to make better, more informed, decisions.


✎ Job description


  • Monitor the underwriting performance with the aim of protecting the profitability of the portfolio.
  • Production of weekly/monthly reports using various tools such as excel, data coding languages and online portals.
  • Support data requests that come from various teams for data and insights into performance of current schemes
  • Maintain and monitor MI and BDX checks and coordinate any variances with pricing/profitability analysts within team
  • Assume responsibility for data integrity and thorough file documentation.
  • Co-ordinate and build collaborative relationships within the business unit to enable the business to effectively manage the performance of the clients across the region
  • Enhance data usage and MI availability to support the decision-making process and drive sustainable portfolios' growth
  • Support in the creation plans and forecasts, closely working with finance team to ensure premium is monitored and production variances understood.
  • Provide analytical support to help improve the business’ understanding of performance, including the use of Excel , Snowflake , Databrick and Power BI


✯ Profile


  • Degree qualified preferably in numerical or science subjects
  • Relevant insurance experience – good understanding of key insurance KPIs and metrics and has coding and data manipulation experience within the insurance industry
  • Proficient with Excel with exposure to Power BI
  • Experience with programming languages such as SQL, Python
  • Enthusiastic individual with high attention to detail
  • Strong commercial acumen, capable of presenting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficient in applying analytical techniques to extract meaningful trends and make recommendations.
