Lead Data Engineer

European Remote

Up to $7,500 per month

Typical hours are Monday-Friday working GMT/BST with potential on-call support required

We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team, responsible for storage and processing most of our data

What you’ll be working on:

• A mix of hands-on and hands-off responsibilities, both owning and implementing challenging projects as well as a technical owner
• Managing technical backlog
• Converting technology goals and stakeholder requests into technical requirements, breaking down work for more junior members of the team into clear instructions
• Helping shape the technical direction of the team
• Analysing data and conducting investigations to support proposals for changes
• Line manage team members, creating goals and supporting them in their growth journey

About the Data Platform team:

• You will join a team of five Data Engineers, varying in seniority. You will be responsible for the line management of some of them, potentially taking on more as you get more familiar with the company
• We have four more technical delivery teams, and as the data platform is the centre of all data flows, you will regularly interact with other team leads and product owners
• You will also have a lot of interaction with our fantastic Data Analysts and Technical Business Analysts

You should apply if you have:

• 1+ years experience leading Data Engineering teams, including seeing projects through to completion, stakeholder management and conflict resolution
• 5+ years of data engineering, analytics or machine learning experience
• Advanced skills in Python and SQL
• Experience with Airflow, Prefect or other task orchestration tools
• Familiarity with modern data stack – you know the current trends and what tools to use for the job
• A proactive approach, with the ability to set and exemplify high standards
• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change quickly
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively

These skills will help, but aren’t essential:

• Prior experience working for a data product company
• Experience building or maintaining third party or in-house data quality and cataloguing solutions
• Experience with documentation of system architecture
• Pandas, Jupyter, Plotly
• DBT,Kafka
• BI tools such as Tableau, Metabase and Superset
