Due to team growth the position of Software Engineering & Testing Lead has become available to join our successful Digital Solutions Team.

We need a Software Engineering & Testing Lead to support our Critical National Infrastructure Clients. You will be accountable for the Technical Assurance of our Digital Solutions here at Costain. This role has the exciting opportunity to take requirements from our clients and work with the Digital team to provide scalable solutions.

Please note that you will be issued with a homebased contract, but occasional travel (with advanced notice) may be required for in-person meetings / workshops. The “home” office for this role will be in our technology capability hub in Worle (near Bristol) where you work around 1-2 days per week.

Eligibility for Security Clearance is essential (UK National or a UK resident for 5+ years), and a UK Driving Licence will be highly beneficial as some projects are in remote locations.

You will manage the technical software and test teams to develop and integrate digital solutions particularly in the areas of our two-core market facing propositions of:

Digital Twin: Which will primarily be using Microsoft Azure and established Digital Twin platforms such as Bentley i-Twin

Situational Intelligence: Focused on real-time systems to solve our clients’ challenges. For example, our Video Management System deployment sub-proposition.

Role Requirements

You will work with delivery teams and other stakeholders to define a costed and prioritised programme of systems development which aligns with business objectives and strategic plans

You will deploy resource and reassess requirements of the project and capabilities of the team to delivery dynamic projects

You will be working with the Continuous Improvement team for quality assurance and audit. External quality standards such as TickITplus.

  • Programming skills (C/C++ and Java) and a range of software languages
  • Experience with real-time enterprise grade systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Digital Twin and test management and strategy.
  • Background in either of the following:

System Engineering, Software Engineering, Solution Architecture or System Integration

Sound knowledge of cyber security

Experience of working with critical national infrastructure clients

  • Effective leadership and teamworking skills in cross functional project teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to distil technical information to senior management and clients.
  • Champions Sustainability Safety, Health, and Environment by putting personal safety and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do and helping the environment and communities to thrive.
  • Having integrity by always doing the right thing in the right way
  • Must be customer focussed by striving for excellence through understanding, anticipating and meeting their needs.
