In this role, you will :

  • Provide expertise and guidance to the social media team, to develop strategies and content for social media channels and the Red Cross blog in support of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Manage a team consisting of staff and volunteers, including recruitment, workforce planning, onboarding, performance management and team development.
  • Develop and maintain the strategy and direction for community building and engagement on social media channels.
  • Oversee social media response during emergencies, including sharing relevant content, engaging volunteers, monitoring for emerging issues, providing regular reports, and communicating with impacted people and communities.
  • Monitor and understand current trends, opinions, concerns, general topics of conversation, etc. as they relate to the objectives of the Canadian Red Cross.
  • Identify and manage issues and reputational threats on social media channels.
  • Develop and foster relationships with social media influencers and supporters.
  • Analyze campaign results and provide recommendations to inform decision-making for future campaigns.
  • Provide regular reporting on social media activities by the Canadian Red Cross and as required during emergencies.
  • Provide on-call assistance during weekends, emergencies, and appeals.
  • Liaise with communications staff responsible for social media at the provincial and regional level, provide guidance and support as needed, Develop and deliver training and development tools to support staff and volunteers on their use of social media at the Red Cross.

What we are looking for :

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in communications and client relations in the area(s) of Public Relations/Communications or Marketing/Advertising.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or College Diploma in business, marketing, or communications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in providing strategic direction and managing social media channels, including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Thrives on a challenge especially under high-pressure circumstances.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional knowledge and passion for social media tools and trends.
  • Experience in managing content creation and editorial planning for digital platforms.
  • Bilingualism French/English is preferred.

Working conditions :

  • Office work when required is performed in a typical office environment and can be a combination of work from home and within the Canadian Red Cross office(s).
  • Ability to work non-traditional and longer hours often on short notice, especially during times of emergency response.
  • Occasional domestic travel may be required.
